The 2022 Cumbria County Council election will take place alongside the other local elections on 5 May 2022.[1] All 87 seats to Cumbria County Council will be elected.

Before the election, the Cumbria County Council is run by a two-party administration of the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats.

In the 2019 general election, the Labour Party lost their last two seats in Cumbria, including Barrow and Furness and Workington; parts of the so-called red wall.

In the last election the Conservatives won 37 seats with 44.3% of the popular vote. The Labour Party won 26 seats with 26.3% of the popular vote and formed a majority coalition with the 16 Councillors of the Liberal Democrats.

The election was postponed from 2021, on 10 April 2021.[2]
