Ode to Silence is the second LP released by Jason Wade, following 2013's full-length Paper Cuts and his 2017 EPs Highways and Low Days and Winzlo Vol.1. It is his first solo release of new material since Gresham in 2019, and first release since 2020's Demos, Vol.1.

Background

Solo Singles

After releasing a five-song acoustic EP titled Gresham in July 2019, Wade released two solo singles in 2020: 'The Way That You Remember Me' on April 15th, and 'Open Up The Doors Again (Big Bright Day)' on April 28th.[1] The former was made available for purchase one week prior as a charitable pay-what-you-can single, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank Middle Tennessee; 100% of proceeds during this week were donated to the charity, raising funds for 14,640 meals.[2] The remainder of 2020 saw Wade release two LPs as part of his duo ØZWALD: June's Head Movies and December's For Polly Anna.[3][4] The band had previously stated that they wished to release two albums per year, beginning in 2019.[5]

Writing

In late January of 2021, Wade teased journal entries containing lyrics for several songs on his Instagram, stating that the songs had been demoed and were intended for future released, including 'One of These Days' and 'Ode to Silence'.[6][7] Additional lyrics were posted alongside them for newly-written song 'Leonard Cohen Nights' and unreleased Lifehouse track 'I'm Still Here (Chernobyl)', however neither song was released nor included on the album [8][9]

Release

The first official single from the album was 'One of These Days', announced alongside the album's title on Wade's Instagram page on October 1st. The song was released as a charity single for Second Harvest Food Bank, Middle Tennessee for one week prior to reaching digital purchase and streaming platforms on October 8th.[10] Subsequent tracks were released for purchase and streaming on approximately weekly intervals throughout the fall of 2021, with the album's cover art by Jake Diggity debuting on November 5th and its final preview single 'Can't Be You' debuting December 10th.[11] 'Windows' was the only song unreleased prior to the full album's digital release on December 31st, 2021. To date, the album has had no physical release.
