2022 (MMXXII) is the current year in parts of the world where the time zone is or earlier. It is a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2022nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 22nd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2020s decade.
The United Nations declared 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture,[1] International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development,[2] International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development,[3] and the International Year of Glass.[4]

- January 1 – Following the 2018 enactment of the Music Modernization Act, and assuming no further extensions to the term of copyrights become law in the interim, all sound recordings fixed before 1923 will enter the public domain in the U.S.; alongside that, books, films and other works published in 1926 will enter the public domain as well.[5]

- January 8 – Venus will pass 0.2658 AU (39.76 million km; 24.71 million mi; 103.4 LD) from Earth.[6]

- February 4 – February 20 – The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, making it the first city ever to host both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics.[7]
- February 6 – If still living and reigning, Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee on this date, marking 70 years on the throne, a mark that no other British monarch before her has held.[8]
- February 28 – Egypt will celebrate 100 years of independence from the United Kingdom.
- March – Run 3 of CERN's Large Hadron Collider will commence.[9]

- June 15 – Support of Internet Explorer 11 ends for versions of Microsoft Windows 10 without Long-Term Servicing Channel.[11]
- July 4 – If the definitive proposal for a new Constitution still isn't voted before, the Constitutional Convention in Chile will have to vote the draft on this date, and it will be subsequently dissolved, given the one-year deadline established by law.

- July 25 – Ram Nath Kovind's five-year term as President of India is set to expire. Kovind is eligible to seek reelection as there are no term limits in India.[13]

- November 8 – The 2022 U.S. elections will select the 118th Congress, the first after the redistricting reflecting the 2020 U.S. Census, and state and local officials.[16]
- November 21 – December 18 – 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, to avoid both the summer heat between May and September and clashing with the 2022 Winter Olympics.[17]
- December 15 – Providing a general election is not called beforehand, Leo Varadkar will succeed Micheál Martin as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of the Republic of Ireland, as part of a rotation agreement made in 2020.[18]

- The first component of the Lunar Gateway, a proposed inhabitable space station to be implemented by multiple international space agencies in lunar orbit, is set to be delivered by an undetermined commercial launch vehicle.[20]
- Planned launch of the unmanned Euclid spaceprobe to study dark energy.[21]
- Germany plans to phase out the last of its nuclear power plants.[22]
- 73P/Schwassmann–Wachmann will possibly cause a meteor shower.[23]
- India plans to launch its first crewed space flight by this year.[24]
- Chuuk State will hold an independence referendum in the Federated States of Micronesia.[25]
- The New Horizons probe will complete its study of the Kuiper belt.[26]
- India is expected to surpass China as the most populous country in the world.[26]
- The Indian Space Research Organisation plans to launch the Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission sometime this year.[27]
- The first light of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory is anticipated to occur in 2022 with full science operations beginning a year later.[28][29][30]
- The 2022 Hungarian parliamentary election is scheduled to be held.[31]
- The 2022 Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.[32]
- Trial of the former Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal is expected in Russia [1]
- The 2022 Australian federal election is scheduled to take place no later than 21 May 2022.

The federal remedies for unauthorized use of pre-1972 sound recordings shall be available for 95 years after first publication of the recording, ending on December 31 of that year, subject to certain additional periods. These periods provide varying additional protection for pre-1972 sound recordings, based on when the sound recording was first published: For recordings first published before 1923, the additional time period ends on December 31, 2021.
