Hello! I'll be taking a look at this article for the January 2022 GAN backlog drive. If you haven't already signed up, please feel free to join in! Although QPQ is not retired, if you're feeling generous, I also have a list of GA nominations of my own right here.

Infobox and lede

[edit]
  • Commas around "after Madison's death in 1849"
    • Added
  • "writing two memoirs and attempting to get them published." → "writing and attempting to publish two memoirs."
    • done
  • Mention what happened in 2003 to make them not the standard
    • Allgor doesn't actually say, frustratingly enough. She mentions-- seven pages later--the 2003 publication of The Selected Letters of Dolley Payne Madison and includes it in the footnote to the epilogue where Cutts's memoir is discussed, but I think to definitively make the connection would be OR. I could add a sentence saying that those letters were published in 2003 and change the lede to say "standard for over a century" or something that doesn't leave one wondering "what exactly happened?" if that would be better?

Biography

[edit]
  • "Anna's sister was Dolley Madison," → "Cutts's aunt was First Lady Dolley Madison"
    • added w/o First Lady because, particularly during Cutts's later years, Madison would not have been first lady.
  • "wrote to the Madisons"
    • added
  • "getting signatures" → "acquiring signatures"
  • "life in general" → "general life"
  • "devastated at" → "devastated by"
  • No commas around "Dolley" in the phrase "when her sister Dolley died in 1838"
  • Link Fourth of July
    • Done the above

Memoirs

[edit]
  • Who is "she" in "she had instructed that her private letters be burned"?
    • rephrased, better?
  • No commas around "Annie" in "Cutts and her sister Annie"
  • No quotes around "confiscated" per MOS:QUOTEPOV
  • "between the two works" to specify that it isn't the relationship between the two women
  • "thirty-two or fifty seven" → "32 or 57" per MOS:NUMERAL
  • "skipping 1801 to 1809" → "omitting the period between 1801 and 1809"
  • "sixty-one or ninety five" → "61 or 95" per MOS:NUMERAL
  • "[the Madison's]" → "[the Madisons']"
    • Done the above
  • Again, what happened in 2003 to preclude this as the standard of Dolley's life?
  • "Cutts' original memoirs" → "Cutts's original memoirs" per MOS:'S (yes I think it's dumb, but it's MOS)
    • Done

  • Copyvio score looks good

Putting on hold to allow the nominator to address comments. Feel free to ping me with questions, and let me know when you're finished! — GhostRiver 16:29, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for having a look, @GhostRiver. All points above done, save one query I have about the standard work until 2003. Let me know what you think, and happy new year! Eddie891 Talk Work 16:57, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Happy new year to you as well, Eddie891! I agree that it is frustrating Allgor doesn't make the definitive connection. I would do the rephrasing as you suggested so that it doesn't feel like there's something missing, and the publication of the Selected Letters is probably relevant alone to add. Once that change is made, I'll be happy to pass! — GhostRiver 17:04, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @GhostRiver, attempted to do so-- how does it look now? Eddie891 Talk Work 19:04, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
