- Alice in Chains reunite with the Jar of Flies line-up and singer William DuVall replaces the late Layne Staley.
- Lordi wins Eurovision Song Contest 2006.
- System of a Down goes on a long-term hiatus.
- Jesse Pintado of Terrorizer and formerly of Napalm Death passes away.
- Disarm from the UK go into the studio to record there eagerly anticipated debut album following there UK tour alongside Dirty Rig.
- Opeth drummer Martin Lopez officially and permanently leaves Opeth on May 12th, 2006, due to ilness and anxiety attacks to the dismay of many an Opeth fan. Martin Axenrot has replaced him as a permanent replacement and has played with the band on the last 5 tours and the BBC recordings on a previously temporary basis.
