Nexon Corporation (Korean: 넥슨) is a Korean Gaming Coporation, and is among the pioneers of online gaming and MMORPGs. Its headquarters is located in Seoul, Korea.
History
Nexon Corp. was first introduced in 1996 with Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds, one of the world's first online commercial graphics game. Nexon is known as one of the world's best game publisher in Korea. Intel stated that Nexon uses Intel Xeon servers for their games.
Nexon has also released a few unsuccessful games to the North American audience in beta form which have since been dropped. They include Elemental Saga, QuizQuiz and Elancia. QuizQuiz never left beta stage in North America but was later released through the Singapore division of Nexon, NexonAsia in an English version. QuizQuiz has since evolved into the exclusively Korean and Japanese online game Q-Play, while Elemental Saga was eventually cancelled. Nexon has several games exclusively available to Korean players such as Mabinogi, Elancia, and Crazy Arcade.
It has produced several online video games, primarily MMORPGs and online action games. Most games have used a 2D perspective, including side-scrolling, top-down, and isometric perspectives. Newer 3D titles are currently being published. Although most games are available for free, various gameplay enhancements can be purchased.
NEXON America
NEXON America started as NXGames on October 2005 and they released its first online game release called MapleStory (Thanks to a partnership deal with Wizet, MapleStory was originally released in the States in 2003 by Wizet). On November 8, 2006 NXGames changed its name to NEXON America, and launched with MapleStory (Which was already released by the partnership deal with Wizet), and Audition Online. On November 9, 2006, NEXON America had announced its partnership with MTV Networks to promote Nexon games and enhance the Neopets services. NEXON has also announced that they will market both MapleStory, Kartrider, and Audition Online.
Partnership with Nintendo
NEXON announced that they have made a partnership with Nintendo, making them a second party developer for the video game giant, though they will continue games for the computer as well.
Nexon Cash
Nexon Cash system is one of the world's first pioneers to use the Virtual Asset Sales (VAS) model. The Nexon Cash system was first introduced in the Korean version of MapleStory. The Nexon Cash system is for users to buy Nexon Cash (Nexon Points in Japan). Users use this virtual cash to buy items for their characters for games that support a Cash Shop. The Nexon Cash system has made big that other companies are using it too. Nexon uses the Nexon Cash system to fund for their company and keeping their games Free to Play. In States, the Nexon Cash system was first introduced as NX Cash system in MapleStory Global edition, because of their subsidary NXGames used to run the Global version of MapleStory.
On January 11, 2007, Nexon America has announced prepaid cards for Nexon Cash to be release on January 16, 2007 at Target. These Nexon Cash Cards are used to redeem Nexon Cash for any of the Nexon games in America. The Nexon Cash Cards will be the first prepaid Cash Cards for any game portal available.
News
- October 2005 - Nexon Corp. takes over services of Global MapleStory under the name NXGames from Wizet.
- May 2006 - Nexon America hires a CEO and will be starting a major marketing campaign.
- June 2006 - Nexon disclosed it is set to launch a game portal service in the U.S., with the company planning to unveil "Audition," a hit online dance game enjoying phenomenal success in Taiwan and China as well as in the home market.
- June 7, 2006 - KIPA (Korea IT Industry Promotion Agency) listed Audition Online to be launched in America.
- August 25, 2006 - According to an interview published on Gamespot Korea, an english version of Mabinogi is under development/translation for North America market. Estimated release is scheduled for 2007.
- November 7, 2006 - Nexon America has launched with Global MapleStory under Nexon America.

NEXON Japan
NEXON Japan is known as the king in the gaming business in Japan. NEXON Japan was first started with MapleStory, a hit online game. With MapleStory, NEXON Japan attracted lots of users globally. NEXON Japan, then added more games into their lineup. NEXON Japan's MapleStory started get more and more hackers from their English speaking users.
NEXON Korea
NEXON Korea is also a large gaming company in the industry in South Korea. NEXON Korea also started with MapleStory in their lineup. NEXON Korea got a lot of users coming in to MapleStory because of the Tespia Test Server and their difference in Patch Numbers. Since the Korean market was ahead than the other markets, all Korean portals have added the use of a Korean Social Security Number. So NEXON Korea implemented this to stop all these users from joining. Which started NEXON Korea to change it's registration often.
