Orlando Sinangote Murillo IV (born January 12, 1999)[1], better known as Niel Murillo, is a Filipino singer and a member of the boyband BoybandPH. He made his debut as a singer with his band Migo Ta Bai who performed locally in Bogo, Cebu. He rose to fame when he joined and won the first ever Pinoy Boyband Superstar along with members Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez and Joao Constancia
In January 2017, the boyband released their first self-titled album BoybandPH under Star Music.[2] Their carrier single UNLI debuted number 1 on the Philippine Charts, that was then followed by Somebody (a cover of Depeche Mode), which also reached number 1 on the Philippine Charts[3]
Personal life
He was born Orlando Sinangote Murillo IV, the fourth child of 8, to parents Orlando Murillo Jr. and Edwina Sinangote-Murillo.[4]
A native of Bogo City Cebu, Niel started singing at a very young age and was a favorite performer in his school.[5] His older brother went blind in 2012, after which Murillo wanted to help his family financially,[6] so he auditioned for Pinoy Boyband Superstar, a talent search in ABS-CBN.
Career
In 2016, 17 year old Murillo auditioned for the first season of Pinoy Boyband Superstar. He quickly became a crowd favorite.[7] He received an impressive 96% votes from the female audience, advancing him to the next level where he gave his own rendition of Sam Concepcion's Mahal na mahal. His videos hit more than 5 million views on YouTube.
He continued to be selected onto its Top 7 grand finalist singing boyband hits such as Backstreetboys' I want it that way, One Direction's Best song ever and All-4-One's I swear with other aspirants.
In the finale, Murillo and his co-aspirant Russell Reyes performed Major Lazer's Cold Water where they received good comments from judges Yeng Constantino and Aga Mulach. He was the first winner to receive the highest combined scores from the judges' ratings and the number of text votes, beating out six other finalists of the talent show[8]
He took home a talent management contract from Star Magic, a recording contract from Star Music, a Yamaha Mio motorcycle and all five winners received P1 million each from Yamaha and ABS-CBN.[9]
Murillo, alongside with Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez & Joao Constancia, collectively known as the Filipino boyband group BoybandPH, launched their first album January 28, 2017. The self-titled album features original songs like Unli, Boyfriend, Magmamahal, We made it and a cover of Depeche Mode's Somebody. There' s also a bonus acoustic track of Boyfriend.[10] Two months after its official release, their self-titled album had sold more than 7,500 copies, reaching Gold status.[11]
Just last February 2017 they had an associated act with one of ABS-CBN divas Jona Viray with the song Till the end of time.
They are currently a mainstay act of ASAP, a noontime variety show in the Philippines.
