A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Carousel Theatre, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Gillyweed (talk) 00:28, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Carousel Theatre, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carousel Theatre. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?xaosflux Talk 02:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: I've reverted the speedy deletion, and listed this for a deletion discussion as shown above. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 02:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Unfortunately I am not familiar with the subject matter to work on this article. You may offer in the deletion debate to have this moved to a user sandbox for you to work on before re-adding to the encylopedia. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 16:33, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Congratulations again Carole on getting your article past the AfD. Many editor's first articles get deleted, as they aren't familiar with Wikipedia's policies. DigitalC (talk) 04:43, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I've already tried to find sources for the article. Just one source isn't enough, even if that one source is reliable. There doesn't seem to be much that can be done for the article. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 04:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Okay. Reference 1 is the community's website and has virtually nothing to do with the subject. Reference 2 is okay, I guess. Reference 3 is broken, and reference 4 barely even mentions the subject. If you cound find a newspaper article that is specifically about the theater, or anything else that gives it significnt coverage (i.e., multiple paragraphs about the theater proper), that might help. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 05:12, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My guess is that through you good referencing you have saved the article from deletion. Well done! I know it's not quite over yet but you have considerable support. Do watch for WP:COI in future edits. With best wishes, Gillyweed (talk) 22:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Tip

[edit]

Hi Carole Higgins, I'm DigitalC, one of millions of editors on Wikipedia. On behalf of the Wikipedia community, welcome to wikipedia! One tip to help improve your editing is to fill in the edit summary box when making an edit. This will let other editors know what you did when looking at the article history, without looking at the specific changes. You may also wish to visit The five pillars of Wikipedia. If you are interested in a specific topic here on Wikipedia (such as Theatre, or Canada), you can join a Wikiproject. There are Wikiprojects for almost any topic on the Wiki. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! WikiProject Theatre June 2008 Newsletter

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (June 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 4 - June, 2008
Collaboration of The Month

Yet again this month's COTM has remained unchanged as no-one has nominated any articles to become the new incumbent. Please can someone get down to the COTM page and nominate an article for next month!

Assessment

The ongoing task of assesing the articles at the Assessment page continues - if you're feeling a little lost and don't know where to begin to help us out, head on down to the Assessment page and give us a hand.

New members

The past month has seen Canadian Scouter, Carole Higgins, Gonzalo84 and Kiwiboy121 join us - welcome to you all!

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

HELP!

As mentioned in previous newsletters, we're crying out for people to help us out wherever possible. We are currently looking for members to volunteer to give us a hand in several areas. If you can do any of the following, please drop us a line at the talk page:

  • Newsletter Editor(s) - Always fancied yourself as a bit of a journalist? Perhaps you could help us write this newsletter - it doesn't take long to compile. Maybe you'd like to help but can't commit on a regular basis? In that case, why not rally round a few other members of the project to help you out and take it in turns each month to compose the newsletter?
  • Mailmen/women - If writing the newsletter isn't your bag then maybe you could help in the distribution of this fine document? As our membership grows it becomes quite laborious to send it to everyone. It's only a quick task that needs doing once a month, and really is just a case of copying and pasting a template onto our members talk pages.
  • Portal editor(s) - It's come to our attention that the Theatre Portal hasn't been updated in a long time and we'd like to get someone, or a group of people to take charge of it and get it up to the standard of some of the great portals out there (e.g. the Comedy Portal, the Solar System Portal etc).
And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

Welcome

[edit]

Hi Carole, welcome to Wikipedia. We briefly met while I was visiting Dani at the Carousel office. Thank you for writing the Carousel Theatre article, I have had that one on my to-do list for quite awhile. I'm sorry to see that you met Wikipedia with such resistance when writing your first major article. Advertising and notable content has been an all out war between the deletionists and the more liberal editors. I noticed you've been adding the {{WikiProject Theatre}} template to the talk pages on quite a few articles. Generally those are placed at the top of the page along side the other WikiProject templates and maintenance templates. I've gone through your edits and changed them. Also, it's best to not leave a space between those templates (it creates a weird spacing issue). Good luck on the rest of your work. Mkdwtalk 06:55, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carole. Yes it's ridiculously complicated and Wikipedia has done an outstanding job at protecting themselves from being sued for copyright infringement and legal liability over ownership disputes. As the Artistic Director of Carousel Theatre you will have the ability to authorize various photos for use on Wikipedia. The Carousel logo can be uploaded under Fair use no problem. However, anything else you will most likely need to release under the Creative Commons GNU Free Documentation License which simply means anyone can take it and freely do what they like with it. If you upload production stills from a show it's not likely anyone will show an interest but it is something to consider. I'll be able to give you a hand once HIVE 2 is up and done with, but in the mean time if all this WikiPolicy is still confuse you could email me the photos you wish to have posted on Wikipedia and I will do the rest. Have you been to HIVE yet? Mkdwtalk 09:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Theatre Newsletter - February 2010

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (Febrauary 2010)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 5 - February 2010

Welcome to the latest WikiProject Theatre newsletter (the first in quite a while!) bringing you news of what's going on in the project, what progress we're making, and how you can get involved.

Latest News
  • All theatre articles currently tagged with a project banner have now been assessed for quality. There are still plenty to assess for importance, though - see the article assessment page for details.
  • There is now a News section on the main project page, updated automatically to keep us informed of developments in theatre articles.
Collaboration of the Month
  • Theatre has been nominated as the next project collaboration. This could be an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of one of our most important articles - listed as one of Wikipedia's top 1000 most vital articles - but it needs a lot of work before it can be considered for even good article nomination!
  • Stop by the collaboration page for tips on how to improve an article, to add your support, or to suggest alternative or future collaborations.
Jobs you can do

Any and all improvements to theatre-related articles will help the project, but if you're looking for something to do, have a look at the to-do list. Some current areas of priority are:

If you are currently working on a particular topic or area of the project, and would like to muster some support from other editors, feel free to add tasks to the to-do list. Or even think about setting up an informal working group - create a project subpage to organise tasks in a central location. Remember you can always discuss ideas with others at the project talk page.
