Spike and Tyke (characters)
Spike is a fictional character from the Tom and Jerry series. In some cartoons, he could be named as "Killer". He is a stern bulldog who's particularly disapproving of cats, but a softie when it comes to mice. Spike has a few weaknesses that Tom tries to capitalise on: his possessiveness about his bone and his ticklishness. He made his first appearance in Dog Trouble from 1942.
In some shows, he is seen with his beloved son Tyke who tries to teach him about how to be a dog, including to chase cats like Tom. But usually, he protects him from Tom.
With Spike around, Jerry is usually invincible from Tom, since Spike is like a loyal friend and bodyguard to Jerry. But rarely he chases him around.
Spike usually talks but in some cartoons, he can only growl.
