I'm a direct descendent of Mary, John Pierre and his son John Emery. There is no documentation that she was born in Calcutta, there is still debate - I know the oral history. All that is known is she was of Haitian descent, with the earliest known documentation by Joseph Wilson in 1841. Her place of birth is unconfirmed, while she could well be of east Indian and Haitian descent.
