The North Lanarkshire Chiefs are a Scottish basketball club, based in the town of Cumbernauld, Scotland.
Club
The club was founded as the Cumbernauld Chiefs in 1973.
For many years, the Chiefs were relatively successful at local level, however their primary focus was the development of an extensive junior program which continues to this day. This program regularly engages with hundreds of local kids per week. [1]
In 2014, the club changed its name to the North Lanarkshire Chiefs to reflect the wide reach of the club across the whole North Lanarkshire area.
In 2018, the Chiefs entered the Men's National League Division 2, finishing 8th in their maiden season.
Upon promotion to Head coach, coach kev's passion for hustle and heart have driven the NL chiefs to new heights for the 2021/22 season, with star man T-bone averaging a double double in the opening five fixtures.
In 2022, the NL Chiefs went on to win promotion through a playoff game against sleeve. Josh Philpott dropped an enormous 32 points in a close 71-69 victory which saw the Chiefs delight in promotion to Division 1.
Current roster includes talented young players such as Darius, T-Bone, Leviticus, Philpott, Milky, Sherry aka Mr Foul and many more. The future is bright for the NL chiefs.
Like many basketball clubs in Scotland, the Chiefs are a registered charity (SC047704). [2] [3]
