Downingtown High School
Downingtown High School is a secondary school located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Population growth in the burgeoning Downingtown Area School district forced the original Downingtown High School to split into two campuses: Downingtown High School East Campus and Downingtown High School West Campus. While still legally considered one school, the two campuses (usually referred to simply as "East" or "West") are generally regarded as separate entities.
The mascot for Downingtown East is the cougar, for Downingtown West, the whippet. This high school also contains many clubs, from marching band to the controversial Gay/Straight Alliance. Most notable is the extremely active Student Council, which forms a great number of commitees and community service programs throughout the year. Downingtown East's school colors are blue and gold, while Downingtown West's school colors are gold and blue, a similarity that recalls that the two campuses were once one school. A passionate rivalry has sprung up between the two campuses.
Sports have generally tipped in East's favor, however in recent years West has won the majority of the contests. Led by All-State RB Roshaan McCain, West's football team slaughtered their rival 24-13 in the annual East-West game. In general, girls and guys sports are better at West.
Notable Alumni from East include several Appointees to Military Academies, as well as the 2006 6th ranked Quarterback in the nation, Pat Devlin, who is currently redshirting at Penn State University.
