Yevgeni Nikolayevich Ponasenkov (Russian: Евгений Николаевич Понасенков; born March 13, 1982, Moscow, USSR) is a Russian historian, journalist, theater director, television host, actor and singer. He is a leading expert on the Napoleonic era in Russia and author of two historicalmonographs: "The Truth about the War of 1812" (Russian: «Правда о войне 1812 года», 2004, 408 p.)[1] and "The First Scientific History of the War of 1812" (Russian: «Первая научная история войны 1812 года», 2017, 900 p.)[2], which had a huge resonance and became a bestseller among scientific literature.
Ponasenkov is also the author of more than three hundred scholarly, journalistic, critical and philosophical articles and essays on theatre, cinema and classical history. He has created the largest collection of books and artworks from the Napoleonic era in Russia.

Career
From 2003 to 2010 Ponasenkov was the editor-in-chief of the author's columnist for Kommersant Vlast, Russia's most important political weekly.
On June 26, 2014 at the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INION RAS) (Russian: Институт научной информации по общественным наукам Российской академии наук (ИНИОН РАН) at a joint meeting of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) "History of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy" and the Institute of Russian History of the RAS, he delivered a paper entitled "Two Models of Reforming Europe: Napoleon and Alexander I" on the topic "The Russian Army's 1813-1814 campaigns abroad and reformation of Europe".
Since 2004 he has regularly given concerts as a compère, vocalist and reciter of poetry and prose.
Ponasenkov is also a theatre producer. Legendary opera diva Elena Obraztsova invited him to direct the celebration of her jubilee (December 2009 - theatrical performances in the Bolshoi Theatre and the Column Hall of the House of Unions), which was attended by a large number of world opera stars and domestic celebrities (among them: Éva Marton, Sylvia Sass, Maria Guleghina, Valentin Gaft, Galina Volchek, Elina Bystritskaya, Larisa Dolina, Vladimir Zeldin and many more).
In March 2005 Ponasenkov staged "Poetry Day" (Russian: «День поэзии») at the Taganka Theatre, with director Yuri Lyubimov taking on the role of the poet Vvedensky.
In January 2006 the premiere of his play "Sky Lines" (Russian: «Линии неба») about the life of Arthur Rimbaud took place at the "Dramatic Art School" theater, Moscow, starring Dani Kagan (France) and Yulia Bordovskikh.
In March 2006 the premiere of his play "The German Saga" (Russian: «Немецкая сага») took place at the Meyerhold Theater and Cultural Center, Moscow.
In 2008 Ponasenkov directed the classical music programme of the "House of Olympic Friends" (Russian: «Дома друзей Олимпиады»), the cultural centre of the Russian delegation at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
In June 2010 Ponasenkov performed the main male role in a theatrical production based on his own play "The Last Tango of Lili Marleen" (Russian: «Последнее танго Лили Марлен») in the Moscow International House of Music.
In September 2012 the premiere of his feature documentary "The Mystery of the Bay of Naples" (Italy, 105 min, 2012; Russian: «Мистерии Неаполитанского залива», Italian: "Misteri del Golfo di Napoli") took place directed by Ponasenkov at the invitation of the Italian government.
Since January 2013 he has been the editor-in-chief of the author's programme about world cinema on «Moscow. Trust» (Russian: «Москва. Доверие»).
Since June 2013 he has been the author and co-host of the series "The Dramaturgy of History" (Russian: «Драматургия истории») on the Saint Petersburg TV channel "Your Public Television!" (Russian: «Ваше общественное телевидение!»).
