Ongar, Dublin
Ongar is a housing development in Dublin, Ireland. Building started in 2001 and continues today. Ongar is located between Clonsilla and Clonee, part of which is in Dublin 15 and part which is in County Meath. Ongar is roughly 3km from Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. The development includes a mix of apartments and larger houses. This mix of building styles is what has attracted many people to the area.
The focal point of Ongar is an old style Irish village main street where all of the areas' commercial services are located. At present there is a Dunnes Stores, a barber shop, a ladies hair salon, a florist, a café, a print shop,a woman's gym(Curves), a butcher shop, a bakery, a dry cleaners, a Chinese take away, an optician, a bookmaker as well as a medical centre and several commercial offices, and an Xtra-vision store, . There are also plans to open three pubs and several restaurants. The old Ongar Manor House will soon reopen it's doors as a pub and restaurant. The Ongar Educate Together Primary School is also due to move to a permanent home in September 2007.
Ongar Chase, a neighbourhood in Ongar, comprises 108 detached 4 and 5 bedroom homes, with prices starting at rougly €700,000. [1]
The site on which Ongar is built is the site of a former stud farm whose previous owners include the Aga Khan and the American actress Rita Hayworth.
Today Ongar is home to many prominent people including the renowned French flautist and composer Aurore Borredon, computer magnate David Nolan,the critically acclaimed photographer Barry O Carroll, gym instructor Irtiza Malik, male model Junaid Malik and business tycoon Salman Imtiaz.
