Miho Watanabe (Japanese: 渡邉美穂, Hepburn: Watanabe Miho, born February 24, 2000 in Saitama Prefecture) is a Japanese singer, actress, and presenter. She is a second generation member of the idol group Hinatazaka46.

Career

On August 15, 2017, Watanabe was introduced as one of nine Hiragana Keyakizaka46 (now Hinatazaka46) second generation members.[1]

In 2017, Watanabe appeared with the other Hiragana Keyakizaka46 members in the mystery drama Re:Mind, aired on TV Tokyo and Netflix. Her role was originally intended for first generation member Neru Nagahama, who left Hiragana Keyakizaka46 before production began, and she was the only second generation member to appear in the main story with the first generation members.[2]

In January 2019, Watanabe's first photobook, titled Hidamari (陽だまり, lit.'Sunny spot') and photographed in New Zealand, was released. 17,236 copies were sold within two weeks of its release.[3] It was the first and only solo photobook by a Hiragana Keyakizaka46 member, as subsequent books by other members were released after they were renamed into Hinatazaka46 in February of that year.[4]

In July 2020, Watanabe became a co-host for the basketball program You Want to Become an NBA Fan Right Away? (とりあえずNBAファンになってみる?, Toriaezu NBA Fan ni nattemiru?) on NBA Rakuten, the National Basketball Association's web streaming service in Japan.[5][6]

In January 2021, Watanabe played main heroine Nasa Kotosaka in the television drama adaptation of the romance/science fiction novel With You, Who Wanted to Be A Star (星になりたかった君と, Hoshi ni naritakatta kimi to), alongside Gordon Maeda. The drama was aired on Nippon TV and Hulu Japan, with slightly different storylines for each version.[7][8]

On April 3, 2022, Watanabe announced that she would leave Hinatazaka46 after the promotion for the group's seventh single has concluded. She would be the first second generation member to leave the group.[9]

Personal life

Watanabe played basketball from elementary to high school. She was the captain and point guard of her high school team, and participated in prefectural level tournaments.[10]
