Jason Michael Carroll

Jason Michael Carroll is a country musician. Carroll was born June 13, 1978 in Houston, Texas. His family moved to the area of Raleigh, North Carolina when he was 5.

Early life

He grew up in a religious and quite strict home, his father was a strict fundamentalist preacher who viewed all kinds of popular music as the siren call of sinand would not allow any secular music played in the home or even on family trips in the car. His father went so far as to give him a “spanking” when he found a copy of Achy Breaky Heart under his pillow.[citation needed]

In 2004 encouraged by his mother, Carroll won a singing competiton entitled "Gimme the Mic". During this same period, Carroll finished writing "Alyssa Lies", a song Carroll says he struggled to the point of getting migraines for a year and a half before he finished the song.

Carroll's debut album Waitin' in the Country was released on February 6, 2007. In its opening week, the album sold 58,000 copies and reached #8 on the Billboard 200.
