    Added "Gallery" and uploaded images but images not shown when update applied

    I want to add an image gallery to page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deo_Damla

    All 3 image files uploaded OK but when I save my edit the "Gallery" heading is present but no photos are displayed.

    What should I do to fix this?

    @Asmdorje: Are you uploading photos that you took yourself or did you find them somewhere online? If you didn't take these photos yourself, then you can't really claim them as your c:COM:Own work for Commons' purposes and you will need to get the c:COM:CONSENT of the person who did take them. If you did take these photos yourself, then you should try to upload them with their original c:COM:EXIF data instead of scanning them; in the latter case, you may be asked to verify your COM:CONSENT as explained in c:COM:VRT#Licensing images: when do I contact VRT? because high resolution scans often are tagged for review per c:COM:EVID. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:20, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Slurs

    How to request a section be edited for poor wording.

    Under variants on this page,; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_208_Caravan There is the statement ". While the 192 hp (143 kW) more powerful PT6A-140 gives a 11-knot (20 km/h) higher cruise speed". It appears, when I read it, that this plane model has a 192hp engine. The engines are much higher power than that, I believe they meant it was 192hp above the "norm".

    How can I contact the person who wrote the article, and ask they consider rephrasing it.

    Cessna 208 Caravan isn't protected in any way, so you could edit the article yourself as long as the changes were reliably sourced. Alternatively, you could put in an edit request at Talk:Cessna 208 Caravan.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:26, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Rem1061 you can go to the "View history" tab of the article and then "Find addition/removal" and search for 192. It was added here by User:Marc Lacoste, who is still active. Linking their user name and signing the post should notify them. TSventon (talk) 20:32, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    @Rem1061 In my opinion, this phrase is ambiguous. The parenthetical expression in the middle does break it up in the original prose. It should either be a "192hp-more-powerful" engine, or else a "192hp, more powerful" engine (which means it's 192hp total, which is more powerful than the original engine). But it's hard to include the 143 kW phrase in there.

    Hello there! This part is in the Cessna 208 Caravan#Variants section, describing the larger 208B Grand Caravan variant, stating with a more powerful 867 hp (647 kW) Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-140 [...] While the 192 hp (143 kW) more powerful PT6A-140 gives a 11-knot (20 km/h) higher cruise speed. I think it's pretty clear the PT6A-140 produces 867hp, not 192hp. This is 192hp more than the 675hp of the regular PT6A-114 variant. Reading the whole paragraph avoids any ambiguity. It may be improved, but it's not easy as it's a list of technical details. Note this was the result of a long discussion, as I proposed to show those details in a table, while other seasoned aviation editors preferred to show it in prose.--Marc Lacoste (talk) 05:58, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing a draft that's failed article submission

    I noticed there isn't an article in main for the 3rd Fowl Twins book 'The Fowl Twins Get What They Deserve', but found a draft that someone else tried to submit as an article. It failed and it's just sitting there.

    So I'm wondering since it's been tagged as a failed submission, is there a special process for attempting to improve it if I chose to, or letting other editors know about it? Or can I just go ahead like it's a regular article?

    Two questions about article grading

    1. As I prepare to send an article to WP:GAN, is it acceptable to contact an editor (individually at their talk page) for their opinion of the article? If it is acceptable, which type of editors should I pick? If no, is there any alternatives to WP:Peer review that I can use?
    2. Is there a template that centralises requests for re-grading an article?

    Can't find Wikidata page of a person/article

    Hi. Why Toni Storm does not have a page on Wikidata? Would someone please create her page there?

    That's a bit surprising, Mann Mann. I'd never heard of her. I went to Wikidata, searched there for "Toni Storm", and was shown entry d:Q27049393.     The Oversighters can remove personal information from edits, if that's what you're talking about. If you'd like to request some personal info removed, go to the Requests for oversight page and try contacting one there. I don't quite know what you mean about the descriptions though.     Proper Format to Add Citations in the Inbox

    Hey y'all, I tried adding these three citations to the Persian language page in the infobox:

    Of course, I broke the page by accident. You can check out the format I used on the Persian language page which incidently broke it. Anyone know how I can add these to the "Native to" section in the infobox without completely ruining it?

    Hello, Windafarna. You managed to get <ref> and the </ref> the wrong way round between your first and second addition. So instead of closing the first ref and starting a new one, you essentially put an empty ref in the middle of the-ref-that-contained-your-first-two-urls.

    Once again the English language Wikipedia has a bunch of who's that's on the RD section and has skipped NBA Great Bob Lanier's passing. A person noted for his humanitarian work. The Help Desk is for editors to get help editing WP, although we do see a lot of requests (and demands) for the experienced editors here to do something, and often to do something right now.     Also, not to pile on, but please understand that WP does not have anyone assigning areas to work on, or to make sure that certain things are not missed. All of the editors are volunteers, and each editor chooses what to work on. Maybe none of the editors who were active in the one or two days between his passing, and your request, were interested in basketball or noticed that he had passed.     Also, Bob Lanier is literally listed on the recent deaths right now (albeit he'll be the next one to roll off when someone else is added). They're ordered by date of posting (which is when the article is nominated at WP:ITNC and then good enough to be posted on front page), not by date of death or any sort of perceived importance.     How do people have access to recent articles when they are not on the web?

    For example, here on Pierre Poilievre#40th Parliament it says in the second paragraph, "Poilievre became referred to as the Conservative Party's "attack dog"" with three citations, none of them linked.     The citations are to articles published in 2009-2011, they aren't 'recent'. As for how they were accessed, libraries often keep copies of publications. Wikipedia has no requirement that sources have to be accessible online. AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:06, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    In the article Church of Scientology, I fixed reference 214, as follows:

    I have added a article named "Mothparja", a small village. I have expanded it , have given infobox, sections and also have given references. But except that it is a stub-class article.     Order of categories

    Let's say that a "John Doe" article belongs in categories "2022 births", "People from Foo", "Everymen", "Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence winners", "War of the Ring veterans", etc. In which order do categories go in the bottom of the article?     What is the right template to use for fair use company logos?

    Hi all

    I recently wrote an article for Dora Goodman Cameras and would like to add their logo in the infobox (see here in top left for the logo). I assume this is a fair use image but can't work out which template to use. Does anyone know?

    @John Cummings Looks fine to me. I'm no expert, but I've uploaded a few and they haven't been deleted.     The file is currently here but was nominated for deletion because it is the same as this image on Discogs. So it isn't suitable for Commons as it must be freely licensed.     @MeelakIbrik Allow me to take the liberty of expounding on IanMacM's comment. That picture appears on a Web page, and the Web page says "copyright 2022 Discogs" in the footer. So, Discogs is claiming copyright on the contents of the page. This raises questions: Did you post the picture at Discogs? Are they supposed to have that picture? Did you (perhaps inadvertently) allow Discogs to claim copyright on the picture? (I know some of the questions, but I don't know the answers.) IanMacM and ONUnicorn have given good advice -- possession of a photo does not necessarily mean ownership of its copyright.     It is appropriately sourced to an article in the Journal of Military History. It is not vandalism. Moreover, you ask that we "remove and investigate the adminstrator responsible..."     It's coming from Help:Simple_guide_to_vandalism_cleanup#Alternative:_Call_attention_to_it. There is a button in the collapsed section for pages that are not high traffic, which generates a help desk post like the one above.

    Hello, and welcome to the Teahouse! As far as I am aware, there is no page called Victoria Asher. Do you mean that you are creating a page for her? Are you being paid to edit? Even if you are not, you would still have a conflict of interest, which goes against the guidelines. A good Wikipedia article is supported by reliable sources and shows neutral point of view towards the subject. Would you be able to provide that? Wikipedia is not a place to advertise or promote people or organizations.

Before you do anything else, you should convince yourself that the subject, Victoria Asher, is notable by our definition.     My mother is Author Amelia Hutchins, she was raised and born in Spokane Washington. I am trying to get her added to authors from Spokane Washington's notable people.

    She's a Wall Street Journal Bestseller, and has been on the USAT Bestselling chart numerous times.

    Wikipedia does not care about where an author was born and raised, and Spokane authors are no more notable than Mumbai authors or Tokyo authors or Lagos authors or Indianapolis authors. What is so special about Spokane? Disclosure: My great-grandparents were wheat farmers near Spokane their entire adult lives, but who cares? What matters is not listings on publishing industry backscratching bestseller lists, which are notoriously subject to manipulation.     It looks to me that WP:NAUTHOR wants more than reviews of books; it wants the author to be regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers, or else has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.     @Gail Grogan Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. WP is very careful about copyright, but if you are in close contact with him, this can be fairly easy.
    Take a new (previously unpublished anywhere) picture of him yourself, and then upload it with the process that starts here. That is a link to Commons, a sister-site where we keep "free" images. Unless other editors think it's a worse picture, it can then be used in the article, but a newer image should be considerd a +.     Copyright of photos is tricky (it usually belongs to the photographer), so the very best to use will be one you took yourself, LEOleeBrother or one taken by another family member whose estate you have now inherited, for example. One possibility, since Eveline Burchill is dead, you could take a screenshot from the RTE video I note is on their website and upload that under the "fair use" provisions (see WP:FAIRUSE).     Why do you have that Smith is buried in Connersville, Indiana, that is NOT true! Years ago I sent proof that Caleb B. Smith was not buried in Connersville, the history books say that because that's what Elizabeth (Watton) Smith wanted everyone to think. But that's not the truth. Elizabeth Smith wanted everyone to think that because after the Civil War the Southern dissenters were coming from south to north descrating bodies and Elizabeth was terrified that they would do that to her husband. Smith was first buried in Greenlawn cemetery in Indianapolis, then Crownhill Cemetery opened about 6 months later and she paid $500 for a plot of her choice to have Smith buried in, but he wasn't buried there either. (A 1977 opening of the mausoleum at Crown Hill proved that, only his wife and daughter were buried there.)

    A 1977 excavation, that I attended and wrote about in the Connersville, Indiana City Cemetery was carried out in the Watton lot, or Watton-Smith lot, and Smith was found not to be there. The body that was found was Smiths brother-in-law William Watton Jr. There is a story that has pictures, letters, and consent to excavate along with other valuable information - here at https://archive.org/details/WeirdMystery/page/n51/mode/2up

I also can't imagine that Smith would be buried at Elmhurst because he left and went to Indianapolis and died there. So I can't imagine his wife asking if they could bury a body in the basement.

    Sensionson, someone out of the hundreds of people who have edited the article in its past 18 years of existence must have thought Connorsville was correct, or they wouldn't have added the (false?) information (it would be possible, but tedious, to find out who) but without a reliable source to cite, the article shouldn't say it, or for that matter say where else his body might be. It is of course possible that it was, at some point, interred in Connersville and later moved to somewhere else unknown.
    We could include at least some of the information you are putting forward if it has (a) been published in a reliable source (WP:RS) that has editorially checked its accuracy, and not just reprinted self-reported original research (which Wikipedia never uses), and (b) that source is correctly cited. Wikipedia does not permit in-text external links, see Wikipedia:Citing sources). It is up to the person adding the information to cite correctly, not to leave the job half-done and expect someone else to clear up the mess. You were reverted for incorrectly using external links as long ago as 2013 (by a bot, not a person), but seemingly have not learned any better in the 9 years since.
    This is a collaborative project in which (nearly) everybody is trying to co-operate to build an encyclopedia.     I used the translate feature to translate an article from Italian wiki into English. I over-wrote nearly every word of the machine translation into neutral wikipedia style, as required. I then saved it to work on it later rather than Publish it, but now I can't seem to find it.     Is it useful to add "language" parameter to English citations?

If you create an anchor in a heading, with the former name of the section (such as ==Surface integral{{subst:anchor|The surface integral}}==), links to the old name of the section will still work even after you change the name.     Welcome to Wikipedia editing Lárus Sigurður. New editors are prevented from creating articles directly into Mainspace, as experience tells us they often don't do a good job. However they can use the articles for creation system which among other things allows experienced editors to review and accept/decline/reject the work. Please read WP:YFA or start by improving one of our existing articles in an area you are interested in — that way you'll learn the ropes before you tackle the bigger challenge of writing something from scratch.     Josquin des Prez image scaling

    In my work on Josquin des Prez for FAR, I was trying to make the lead image a little larger, as it is rather small. For FAs we're told not to use px size (I have no idea why) so I was trying to use 'upright=1.7' (or whatever number worked nicely) but for some reason this isn't altering the size of the image in preview?     Removal of my name

    Dear Wikipedia, Due to privacy reasons I’d like my page to be deleted. The page is for Phyllis Grant. I don’t like having my personal info on the internet. I’m deleting all my presence.     I'm a bit confused about what to do now

    I reverted this edit because it looked like content removal without an adequate reason. But then the same IP reverted my edit with this edit summary:

    Big Lies! Liar! Liar! That's a Big Lie! Don't Do That or You are Grounded!
