The Sand Band are a British alternative folk band from Liverpool consisting of guitarist / songwriter David McDonnell and bass guitarist Ben Curtis.

After working together in a music shop in 2002 and playing together for a number of years, McDonnell and Marmion formed The Sand Band around 2009. McDonnell had previously played live guitar for Richard Ashcroft and The Coral while Marmion played in Liverpool band Ella Guru. McDonnell helped record and played guitar on The Coral’s ‘Curse Of Love’ album in 2005 then helped record their 2007 album ‘Roots & Echoes’. McDonnell and Marmion came back together in 2009 to record All Through The Night and the band performed at Heavenly Records Social and the Liverpool Sound City festival in 2010.[1] Their first album All Through The Night was released in January 2011 to a positive critical reaction,[2][3] being described by Mojo in January 2012 as "one of the albums of last year".[4] McDonnell was originally part of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds band but left for personal reasons he also toured with the likes of: Richard Ashcroft, The Coral and The Zutons[4][5] Ben Curtis also plays bass for The Moons alongside Andy Crofts and Ben Gordelier from Paul Weller's live band. Former drummer Jay Sharrock played in Miles Kane's band.[6]

Download single "Set Me Free" was released in March 2011 and featured two B-sides "Way Back When" and "All Is Forgiven". The band have recorded with John Head of Shack also with Ian Skelly and Bill Ryder-Jones of The Coral.[4] 2021 brought a remote collaboration on ‘The Sound of Love Returning’ with ex Minus The Bear guitarist Dave Knudson’s and Sam Bell for Knudson’s solo album ‘The Only Thing You Have to Change is Everything’. https://open.spotify.com/album/6NKqrU5Ic9LMm2eqC5lqbI?si=sY0inmKqQVSw9_OLf27Bcg
