Lily Banda (born 16 August 1990) is an Actor, singer, songwriter, dancer and poet who was born in Malawi.

Biography

Lily developed a love of music as a child, performing at school. She begun her professional career independently in 2010, working as a radio, television and event host.[1] She began performing under the name Alex as a singer and poet.[2] Her debut album, "Black Kiss" was released in January 2014. In 2015 she followed up with the EP Odd Hours .[3] She was awarded a youth hero award by the African Union in 2015. In 2018 she released a double album 'Just Go' and 'Original thought' which earned her 2 nominations by Afrima in the Best Female Artist Southern Africa and the Most Promising Artist in Africa categories. In 2020 she appeared on the Africa 35:35 list of The 35 most influential young African personalities .[4]


In 2019, Banda appeared in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, based on the memoir by William Kamkwamba. She played Annie Kamkwamba. She also starred as Aicha Konate in the second season of the TV series Deep State in 2019. Her character is a Malian interpreter who is ambushed and supposedly killed.
