The 2022–23 NBA season is the upcoming 77th season of the National Basketball Association (NBA), with the regular season beginning in October 2022 and ending in April 2023. The 2023 NBA All-Star Game is scheduled to be played on February 19, 2023, at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.[1] The playoffs are then scheduled to begin in April 2023 and ending with the NBA Finals in June 2023.

Draft

The 2022 NBA draft is scheduled to take place on June 23, 2022, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.[2]

Free agency

With the previous season's NBA Finals ending in mid-June for the first time since 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the period for free agency will return to its normal July 1 starting date, along with the July moratorium period before players can actually begin signing new contracts.[3]

Off-season

Preseason

Two preseason games between the Golden State Warriors and the Washington Wizards are planned to be played at Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan.[8]

Regular season

The regular season schedule is expected to be released in August 2022.

International games

After three years without an international regular season game due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be a game at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France on January 19, 2023 between the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons.[9]

Media

This will be the seventh year of a nine-year deal with ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV.[10]

With December 25 landing on a Sunday in 2022, this season's NBA Christmas Day games will have to compete with NFL Christmas Day games for viewers, with the NFL planning its own tripleheader for the first time on that day.[11]
