Fair use rationale for Image:Impero cinema.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Impero cinema.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 02:14, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Use

[edit]

I have read the fair use article, but don't get the point! Please could you explain why this system is in place, it seems a waste of time as the images are GFDL. Segafreak2 00:21, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, what images are you talking about? If it's Image:Impero cinema.jpg, then no, according to the description page and the copyright tag there, this image is not under the GFDL. The copyright tag on that image says that the image is copyrighted and is being used under a claim of fair use.
As for the reason behind the fair-use policy, you should understand that fair use is not something Wikipedia made up; it's a part of United States copyright law. Wikipedia must comply with the appropriate copyright laws, and the fair-use policy is meant to ensure that we do. Additionally, Wikipedia's goal is to be an encyclopedia of free content that anyone can use for any purpose, so the fair-use policy is meant to limit the amount of unlicensed copyrighted material that we use.
If an image is released under the GFDL, then you're right, fair use isn't needed. That's because the image has been licensed for anyone to use ifor any purpose. Fair-use claims apply only to copyrighted images that have not been released under a free license. In the case of Image:Impero cinema.jpg, the copyright for this image is held by the photographer, and Wikipedia cannot use the image without the photographer's permission. The only exception to this rule is that some copyrighted images can be used without permission from the copyright holder, as long as the use of the image in Wikipedia satisfies all ten points of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. However, any fair-use claim must be supported by a rationale explaining why the use of the image in Wikipedia satisfies all ten of these points. Image:Impero cinema.jpg does not have such a rationale, and that's what I was letting you know about.
Please let me know if I can help you out or if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 04:29, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Unfortunately an image you uploaded, Image:Asmara-architecture.jpg, cannot be used on Wikipedia because it is not available under a free license and fails our first fair use criterion. Although we can't accept that image, we hope you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:03, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Eritreanairlines logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eritreanairlines logo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Alba_plc_logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Alba_plc_logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexander dennis logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Speedy deletion of Ascension Heritage Society

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ascension Heritage Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. AfD nomination of Planet Ring

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Planet Ring. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Planet Ring. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:25, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Indian Empire Games

[edit]

The article Indian Empire Games has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to be a hoax, Google search returns only Wikipedia mirrors.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
