Chad Ostlund is the Minnesota Vikings Director of Research and Development. In a newly created position within the Vikings’ organizational structure Ostlund manages databases and develops research reports for coaches, management and ownership based on the analysis of statistical and tactical trends.  Ostlund is responsible for developing computer applications and technology for the football side of the organization.  In addition, Ostlund handles all team ownership logistics and special projects, In addition, oversees capitol expense purchases with the team Finance department. 

Ostlund is credited for founding the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor in 1998[1]. In addition Ostlund created the Minnesota Vikings All-State Football Team in 1999 along with the Vikings High School Coach of the Week program which awarded high schools with a contribution of $1,000 from the Vikings Children's Fund. In 2000, Ostlund developed the Minnesota Vikings high school and college coach of the year awards

Ostlund joined the team in 1995 in public relations, from 1998 to 2000 he worked as an Administrative Assistant with Paul Wigggin in pro personnel and and Mike Eayrs in Research and Development on opponent film breakdowns and player evaluation projects.  Then was later promoted to Executive to the Ownership operations from 2000-02. Ostlund Interns include Todd Downing[2] [3] and Brian Eayrs[4][5]

Ostlund began coaching in 1988 at Pierce College in after a one year career at wide receiver. In 1989 coached at Ridgewater College before moving to Normaandale College[6] from 1990-93. In 1992 He began scouting for Eden Prairie's Mike Grant and coached in various capacities 1994-97; 2005-2012, while being part of 8 state champsionships. Ostlund coached in the 2004 Hula Bowl for Frank Solich[7] For Buddy Ryan[8] in the 2006 and 2007 Texas versus the Nation Bowl. He was appointed in 2000 as a member of the AFCA[9] Foundation Board of Directors and served 3 years in that role.

Chad is credited for helping develop the Bud Grant Garage sale into a national brand[10] The sale draws fans from all over the country looking to get unique stuff from the former Vikings coach Bud Grant.

Ostlund has owned and coached a semi-pro football team since 1995, the Minnesota Maulers[11] which plays in the Northern Football League. He has a 87-13 record including 8 championships..  Ostlund graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Science and a Masters degree in Learning technology . He and wife, Jenny, have a daughter, Katelyn, a son, Grant and reside in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
