Feature Request: Howto?
How would I make a suggestion for a feature addition to Wikipedia. The idea I in mind is a text to speech option. How would this be done. where is feedback page???
- Good question. Mathiastck 11:55, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

When to delete blue-links
I'm a little confused aobut this. Let's say there's an article request for variable and I write such an article. Should I then delete "variable" from this list and add it to stubbs or what? Do they mean don't delete things from this list or do they mean don't simply delete things, rather, add them to stubs. Can someone please edit to clarify? Thanks! Avraham 03:29, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, what does this mean? I don't get it either. --Lph 19:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- You've got it right the second time. Don't "simply" delete blue-links. If the brand new article is a one-liner stub, then you'd probably want to leave it on the request list. You'd also want to leave it listed if the article is under dispute or has problems that should be attended to by more than a couple of people. If you check the blue-link and there's a pretty good article that links to other articles and back (non-orphans), then it's time to scratch it from the list. -- Emana 17:03, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Idea for a bot that might be helpful here
Would it be useful to have a bot that would remove all request links once the articles were made?--Urthogie 19:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- The only problem I see is that sometimes red links turn blue for the wrong reason, because someone creates an article by the same name on a different topic. In that case the request link needs to be modified/disambiguated rather than removed. --Lph 19:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Lph. But I think it would still be extremely useful. If you can make a bot to hunt them out, we could make a project to go through them and then delete it or do what needs to be done. I think doing it manually once we get the list is the only way to do it because people don't always put dashes around things they add, we we would either end up with floating text related to links that aren't aorund or deleting other links we want to keep. Is there a way to make a bot that can compile a list of the redlinks and their info (say, the whole dash to dash entry plus the category) that are blue? And then there's the issue of removing things from the list (see precious topic ^ ^ ^) Avraham 03:32, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- The Mathbot can do that. It created a subpage of redlinks for me once. Also, the Mathbot is capable of removing stuff supplied to it from a seperate list.--Urthogie 12:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, is there a page telling me how to use this bot and where to access it? I know nothing about bots. Avraham 13:56, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- Mathbot is run by User:Oleg Alexandrov. We'd have to ask him to set it up.--Urthogie 14:33, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

- Someone could make a bunch of useless pages and then they'd get deleted and be still gone from the list - I reckon it should only remove something after a certain amount of time --WikiSlasher 07:11, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Contradicting statements
This is Wikipedia's page for requested articles. If you want to request a new article, this is the right place to start.
- Yes, that is a statement made on the Wikipedia:Requested articles page, but THIS page is the talk page of the request page. This page is where we discuss about requesting a new article and not where we actually request articles. -- Emana 20:40, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Bullets or no bullets, dense vs. sparse
Recently User:Reedy Boy went through and converted a number of the request lists from the dense form they have had for a long time to a sparse bulleted format.
Some of the request lists have been bulleted for a while (e.g. Requested_articles/Applied_arts_and_sciences), but most were dense until recently. Personally, I prefer the dense format presentation (easier to glance over a section and less scrolling), but I certainly don't want to edit war over something as silly as RA. I would like to actually discuss having a formatting standard for these pages, and whether people prefer the dense or sparse layout. If the consensus is for the dense format, I volunteer to convert them back. Dragons flight 18:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the reason i did it was that i think it looks better, and also the fact that most of them are in the bulleted format. Reedy Boy 18:37, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Of the 9 primary pages listed on RA, you seem to have converted 7 of them (one of which was immediately reverted), so I'm not sure what "most" you are talking about. Having bullets was the exception rather than the rule before you came along. Dragons flight 18:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
I'll jump in here as the person (or one of the people) who switched some pages to the bulleted format several months ago. Although I believe the bulleted format is easier to read, the major motivation was to allow people to add a bit of information on the topic without really making a mess of the list. The Applied arts and sciences page is a good example of how additional info can be added. Having said that, I'm not going to agonize over it either way. One thing for us all to consider is ease of use by those adding items. I'm assuming that most people adding items will be inexperienced users. I'm not sure if this speaks for or against the use of bullets, but I do think it's an important consideration. –RHolton≡– 22:56, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- This RA list now has sub-sections for groups of letters in the alphabet. So the edit summary in my watchlist takes the form /* A-G */ which is not very informative: Which section has the letters A-G ? Recently renamed each subsection with the parent name, or abbreviation => A-G (ABC), H-M (ABC) [for "Architecture, buildings, city planning and public space"]. Any comments —dogears (talk • contribs) 18:02, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Why do articles get deleted?
I wrote a simple definition of 'britpicking', and now i see it was deleted; why would that happen?
Hello Hi I love learning about the Makah Indians And i love this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By Nikki Goldenburgitaman
- Uh, you should check out the Deletion Policy page. It explains everything.
- I disagree, and I think many wiki users misunderstand our Deletion policy. I'd love to see someone try to answer his question succintly :) Mathiastck 11:54, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
The entire content of the britpicking article was:
- Ensuring that Americans use British English when writing fanfics for a story by a british author.
It was deleted by User:Postdlf without reason. Probably because it's a neologism. It's unfortunate that you weren't alerted of the reason. Admins should show more respect when deleting an article. —Pengo 09:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Requesting a new topic heading: Nutritional Biochemistry
The topic heading "nutritional biochemistry" only fits uneasily with the other, already present, headings on biochemistry and those on nutrition. Could someone please consider adding that heading to the list of topics?
Thanks.

Don't know where to categorize these...
I don't know if you all noticed, but:
This is NOT the page to request new articles. Please see Requested articles for instructions |
If you have a request you don't know where to categorize, think and search for a related subject that an article already exists for, then put the request in the same category. -- Emana 06:49, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
The topics aren't very clear to me, so I'm just going to post my requests here in hopes that someone else can accurately categorize them. (If anyone adds to this list please try to keep in in alphabetical order)
Atheism in (Country/Culture): It'd be nice to know how people in different countries and cultures react to Atheism.
Beyond the Beyond (Manga) : (http://www.tokyopop.com/S-1579/) A manga about a young boy named Futaba who is mistaken for the master of the Amaranthine (a girl named Kiara) and is taken to a fantasy world to help her find her real master with the help of an egotistical rabbit and an insane prince.
Bludgeon (weapon): I can't find any place to make a weapons-related request. Anyone care to help?
Budge Wilson: A half-baked Nova Scotian author, but she is an author nonetheless and should have her own article.
B-Pops Crafters: (http://b-pops.com/) You can make imaginary skills/items/quests for the popular MMORPGs Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.
Category- Differences between book and film versions: So far the only existing articles that would fit in this category are for Harry Potter and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but once some more articles are added (HINT HINT) it could prove to be very useful.
Cockentrice: (http://www.godecookery.com/cocken/cocken.htm) A medieval dish that combines a pig and something else.
Diggles or Diggles, the Myth of Fenris: (I'm not sure which title should be used) A PC game where the player controls tribes of dwarf-things. You have to explore underground, fight monsters (and sometimes other Diggles), and find the hell-hound Fenris.
Differences Between Book and Film Versions of _____: They have these articles a few franchises (if you can call them that), and immediately after reading them I decided that similar pages must be done for other books/movies. Can someone at least make a template to start?
Fata Morgana (book): A book about a floating Utopia-esque island by Leo Frankowski (IBSN 978-0671578763)
List of Japanese Learning Resources: Just another red link...
List of Mary Sues: (Possible expansion of the Mary Sue article) Just a list of published characters who are commonly accused of being Mary Sues (ex - Harry Potter, Jean Grey, Aki Ross, Frodo, Arya).
List of Stories Without Happy Endings: Self-explanatory, I should think.
Los Primos Project: (http://www.losprimos.ca/) A project founded by Canadian jazz musician Jeff Goodspeed that connects Canadian and Cuban culture through music. The name means "the cousins", and it sends young Canadian musicians to Cuba and vice versa.
Lullaby (comic): A comic series circling around alternate versions of many faerie tales and classic stories (The Pied Piper, Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, etc).
Mog Mod: A mod for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind made by the creators of Mac Hall that makes Moogles a playable race in the game.
Pagan Religious Beliefs: (Possible expansion on the Paganism article) I've heard of people converting to Paganism, but when I looked at the article it listed several religions and I couldn't get a clear idea of exactly what it means to be Pagan.
Patrol 03: An old cartoon about animals in the police force. I remember it vaguely, but Google has failed to come up with any info on it. The best I could get was a page from the distributor's website, but even that doesn't have much to go by.
Scope Teen Magazine: (http://teacher.scholastic.com/products/classmags/scope.htm) A magazine published by the Scholastic Corporation intended for use in middle-school classrooms.
Shock (psychological): (Possible expansion of Shock, see Talk:Shock)
The Wee Free Men (Film): I understand that not much is known about it, but perhaps it could be made as we learn more.
Cutline
Should this maybe made a redirect to caption? Happily ever after 15:45, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- The caption page is a disambiguation page, so just redirecting cutline to there won't be very helpful in finding out what it is. Seeing that captions to pictures does not have a Wikipedia entry, it is advisable to start a Caption (labels) article and explain what a caption AND a cutline is, then have cutline redirect to captions. -- Emana 18:01, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Misdirection
The link under 'Cultural Models' in Social Sciences and Philosophy directs toward Cognitive Anthropology instead of Cultural Models. Just thought I'd note. 84.104.172.20 00:16, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Unsure What It is
An article for Pig Launcher is needed, but I haven't the slightest idea as to what a Pig Launcher is. It does exist as a company is trying to install a Pig Launcher near my house, and it is currently dividing my neighborhood in two over who has more rights to common ground. Zidel333 01:32, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- Found some info here. Just enough to tell it has something to do with pipes. The article does not explain what a pig is in this context. There were other references on goggle as well nothing seems to explain what exactly it does.Phatom87 23:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Splitting into more pages
Some subpages, like Cultures&Arts are getting extremely long (257 kB, more than 100 screens to scroll through), which makes them difficult to navigate and difficult edit. I will split some of them into sections in a few days, if nobody disagrees. Cheers! Peter S. 14:20, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
I request we make it easer to request articles
It is much too difficult to request articles. Have any alternative methods of article creation been suggested, that are allowed by wikipedia policy? Mathiastck 11:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- How about methods that aren't within current policy? Mathiastck 11:44, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
my "request list"
I agree with Mathiastck above. It should be easier. And as it's such a pita to request articles here, i've just been making my own list of missing articles, which i've been hoarding jealously like the Collyer brothers with their pianos. —Pengo 09:28, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
