Konzum plus d.o.o. is the leading Croatian retail chain with a tradition of 65 years.
The company employs more than 10,000 people, and in Croatia has more than 600 stores in over 300 cities in the continental and coastal region. More than 500,000 consumers a day (2022) makes their purchases in Konzum. Konzum offers products and services in stores of various formats - smaller stores in the neighborhood for everyday shopping, Konzum Maxi stores for larger weekly purchases and Super Konzum stores which offer everything one household needs in one place. Konzum is the first retailer in Croatia to introduce online store and door-to-door delivery and today the online store has more than 290,000 registered users (2022) and covers the wider area of the City of Zagreb, Split, Zadar, Rijeka, Osijek, Đakovo, Vukovar and Vinkovci. Konzum's total sales revenue in 2021 amounted to HRK 10.423 billion.
As of April 1, 2019, the company Konzum d.d. operates as Konzum plus d.o.o. Fortenova Group is the only founder of the company Konzum plus d.o.o.
History
- 1957 Konzum opens the first supermarket in Zagreb at Ilica 22, as well as the first supermarket in the country at the time.
- 1970 Konzum grows into a retail chain under a new name – Unikonzum.
- 1995 Unikonzum becomes Konzum again. Restructures the business according to the consultant's project and introduces the EPOS application. In December, Super Konzum opens – the first supermarket, at the intersection of Vukovarska Avenue and Donji Svetice in Zagreb.
- 2000 Konzum's retail network expands and the first stores are opened outside Zagreb. LDC Zagreb, the largest logistics and distribution center in this part of Europe, is opened.
- 2001 First private label K Plus is introduced, four Super Konzum's has been opened – two in Zagreb, in Poreč and in Split.
- 2002 Loyalty program launched, further expansion of Konzum with focus on Dalmatia, Super Konzum opened in Rijeka. Konzum has completed the acquisition of Alastor, the third largest food retailer in Croatia.
- 2003 VELPRO, a new brand in the wholesale business segment, is introduced.
- 2004 Konzum changes its logo, and a new visual identity is still used today. Thanks to the further expansion of the network of stores, Konzum is present in all Croatian counties and offers customers standardization of products and services throughout the country.
- 2009 Nine Super Konzum stores were opened, a new distribution center was built with an additional 36,000 m2 of storage space, and significant investments were made to improve all processes. The total value of investments amounted to more than HRK one billion.
- 2010 Investment in new sales outlets continued, 40 new outlets were opened, of which 4 were Super Konzum stores of Konzum's largest format, and the construction of a logistics and distribution center in Zagreb was completed. Delivery of the Konzum Internet store in the wider area of Split has begun, and for the first time a bill payment service with a 2D bar code has been introduced in Konzum stores. The environmental management system has been certified according to the ISO 14001: 2004 standard, making Konzum the first retailer to receive this international certificate. The Center for Selection and Education within the Konzum maxi shopping center in Sopot was also opened.
- 2011 The logistics and distribution center in Dugopolje with a total area of 85,000 m2 has started operating, the largest and most modern such center in the region. New Super Konzum stores have been opened in Osijek, Požega and Sesvete, which is also the jubilee thousandth Konzum store in the region. The VELPRO center in Žitnjak was opened, the largest and most modern VELPRO center in Croatia.
- 2014 Konzum benz petrol stations opened. Pick-up service introduced to pick up ordered products, and Konzum Express smart trolleys installed in stores. Coupons on accounts and Konzum gift cards, m-Payment services and contactless payment were also introduced. Konzum mobile application was also presented. Introduced food safety management system according to the requirements of the international standard ISO 22000.
- 2015 Advanced online store Konzum klik introduced. Super Konzum Radnička that brings a conceptual departure from the standard store and a completely new shopping experience was opened.
- 2017 The process of restructuring Konzum begins. Energy management system is introduced, according to the requirements of the international standard ISO 50001.
- 2018 Konzum is awarded for the first time for the highest food donation in Brussels as part of an initiative launched by Biljana Borzan, the European Parliament's rapporteur on reducing waste and increasing food donations and Zoran Grozdanov, the coordinator of the Food Network platform.
- 2019 as of April 1st Konzum d.d. starts operating as a mirror company Konzum plus d.o.o. which is the result of the implementation of the Settlement in the process of extraordinary management of Agrokor.
- 2020 Konzum annexes VELPRO-CENTAR plus d.o.o., the largest wholesale in Croatia. Konzum Kaptol, another modern and innovative store with a specific offer, decoration and visual identity is opened. Cashless self-service cash registers are introduced in smaller format stores. In the COVID pandemic peroid, Konzum introduces additional protection and security measures and ensures a stable supply chain.
- 2021 With the takeover of the Miracolo retail chain and the opening of five new stores, Konzum's retail network includes a total of 624 stores. Konzum is the first retail chain to introduce cryptocurrency payments.

In 2021, Konzum's bakeries acquired the right to use the "Odabrale mame", label, which company Selektiva assigns to products and services that moms really use.
Selected Product of the year
The Active Zone Protein + line in 2022 and Lumpi premium baby diapers in 2021 carry the title of Selected Product of the Year, which confirms Konzum's continuous investments in brand development, especially when it comes to specific lifestyles or premium segments.
Zlatna košarica
Konzum won the prestigious title of Merchant of the Year for 2019 and 2020, at the Awards organized by the magazine Ja trgovac, specializing in retail and consumer goods industry.
The Best Food Donor
Konzum has been holding the title of The Best Food Donor since 2018, awarded as part of an initiative launched by Biljana Borzan, the European Parliament's rapporteur on reducing waste and increasing food donations and Zoran Grozdanov, the coordinator of the Food Network platform.
