Swablu (チルット, Chirutto, Tyltto in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise.

The name Swablu is derived from the words swab (Due to its cotton swab-like wings) and blue (due to its colour).

Biology

Swablu is depicted as a small, blue bird (somewhat similar to a robin in shape with two feathers protruding from its head, a white beak and most prominently, a large cotton wing coming from each side of its head.

Swablu is trained primarily by Bird Keepers and Dragon Tamers, and knows a variety of offensive and defensive Flying-, Normal-, and Ghost-type moves, including Peck, Astonish, Sing, Take Down, and Safeguard.

A version of Swablu that knows False Swipe can only be obtained in Pokémon Box on the Nintendo GameCube.

Swablu has light and fluffy wings that are like cottony clouds. This Pokémon is not frightened of people. It lands on the heads of people and sits there like a cotton-fluff hat. It loves to make things clean and to this end, if it spots anything dirty, it will wipe and polish it with its cottony wings. If these wings become dirty, it will find a stream to shower itself.

After enduring winter, in which little food is available, Swablu flocks move closer to towns in the spring.

In the video games

Swablu is a basic Pokémon found in the wild in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald commonly on routes 114 and 115. Swablu can also be snagged in the Pyrite Cave of Pokémon Colosseum. It can be very difficult to train at early levels, but evolves at level 35 into the bird-dragon Altaria (Chirutarisu), which is much stronger. In this respect, it is similar to Magikarp, but is dissimilar in the fact that its movepool is normal-sized for a basic Pokémon.

In the Pokémon anime (in the episode called "True Blue Swablu!"), May takes care of an injured Swablu until it returns to full health and can fly again.[1] It also appears in the episode called "That's just Swellow" where there's one that belongs to Shane, a participant of the Pokéring competition who introduces Ash and friends to the competition.[2]

In Pokémon Adventures, Swablu is one of the Pokémon belonging to Gym Leader Winona.
