Getting Around
Ground Transportation
The most common way of getting around is by bus or car. "Chicken buses", recycled and often colorfully painted former US school buses, are popular within cities and for short-distance trips. Some operators (such as Litegua between Guatemala City and Puerto Barrios, Fuente del Norte between Guatemala City and Flores, or Monja Blanca to Cobán) run modern air-conditioned buses for longer distances. Information on schedules of other lines is limited (e.g. [1]) and usually has to be obtained locally; however, as a rule, there are frequent services along major routes as well as to smaller settlements. There are no passenger trains. Private shuttles are common.
By Air
Guatemala's Airline (TikalJets) offers non-stop service to Flores (Tikal).
Boats
Ferries are available in certain regions, such as Sayaxché or around Livingston.
