Albanians in Turkey

As you can see you are in conflict with numerous accounts. The number of Albanians in this case is much too high, both because there are no sources. The sources given do not report estimates of the number.

Happy New Year, Ktrimi991!

About Zourafa

Hello, first of all, I'm Fertilis from Turkey, I want you to make some corrections about Zourafa Island. First of all, all Turkish words are misspelled, for example: Piri Reyes should be "Piri Reis" . Even the Turkish name of the island is written as Zurata, not Zurafa . In addition, almost all of the references you have given are taken from unilateral and non-objective sources. I can help you with references and editing... Fertilis Spes (talk) 15:16, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fertilis Spes. I am assuming good faith on the Turkish spelling, so I added back the relevant changes you made. As for the rest of your changes, the community consensus is that the island is in Greece, not in Turkey. It is sth that you can not change. I hope you find editing on eniki interesting, and continue to contribute. Cheers, Ktrimi991 (talk) 15:27, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vasojevići edit

Hi there Ktrimi,

I saw that you reverted my change on the Vasojevici page. No problem with that on my side, I understand that administrators need to verify such removals.

So, as for the removed source, you can verify it from this link: http://cogito.ucdc.ro/cogito7.nr2.june.pdf#page=117. The author speaks about Vasojevici on page 125, but does not say anything about their relation with Albanians (she uses the Albanian spelling Vasojeviq but that does no mean she considers them as of an Albanian origin). The whole article is about adornments and costums in Oltenia and Banat (parts of Romania).

Regarding the dubious statement, I'm sure that it should be maintained, because nearly all of the cited scholars are either Albanian (Andromaqi Gjergji, Arben Arifi, Luan Tetaj and Qemal Murati), or pro-Albanian (Robert Elsie, Miranda Vickers). Contrary to what you say when reverting my change, none of these scholars are well-known scholars. Robert Elsie is probably the most widely known of these ones and even him was not a specialist of Montenegrin tribes (he, however, was indeed a specialist of Albanian tribes). This is what he states in his book The Tribes of Albania: The now Slavic-speaking Kuçi [Kuči] tribe of Montenegro, for instance, was originally Albanian-speaking. The same may be true, at least in part, of the Montenegrin Vasoviqi [Vasojevići] and Palabardhi [Bjelopavlići] tribes. You can admit that this is a very poor argument to maintain that Vasojevići are likely of Albanian origin.

This lives only three publications to maintain this dubious statement: one from Rudolf Vogel (as with Elsie, only one sentence, a very poor argument), one from Aleks Buda (a reference that is very hard to check, but I may get an access to it in the University I work in) and Heiko Brendel (I still have to check this one).

However, most other publications on Vasojevići, very respectable studies from ex-Yugoslavia but also Albanian ones, state that Vasojevići are essentially Slavic or, more probably of mixed Vlach/Slavic ancestry. The name from which the tribe comes from (Vasoje) is indeed the Vlach diminutive of Vasilije, which is the south Slavic form of the Greek Vassilios.

I'm open to any discussion about this.

Best regards, Boki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boki (talkcontribs) 12:26, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boki. Elsie, Vickers and others are reliable scholars who have been cited in many Wikipedia articles. In any case, they are much more likely to be neutral than publications by universities in Albania, Kosovo and Serbia for obvious reasons. There are several reliable non-Balkan scholars who say the tribe was of Albanian origin, so it is not dubious at all. If you have reliable, non-Balkan scholars who have another view on the origin of the tribe, add it next to the Albanian origin claim. On the source you removed, as I said, I will check it and will remove it myself. Cheers, Ktrimi991 (talk) 12:38, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, note that the article says "Likely of Albanian origin". Ktrimi991 (talk) 12:45, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ktrimi, thanks for you andwer. Elsie was a good fellow (I like his writings on Albanian history) but is not a specialist of Montenegrin history and as such, of Montenegrin tribes and what he states is only supposition which is not based on historical sources. The same for Miranda Vickers, whose publication is not of academic quality. Anyway, none of them is a specialist of Montenegrin tribes. I disagree, though, that Balkan scholars should be excluded, most of them are respectable scholars who work together (see, for example, the very recent book Medieval Bosnia and South-East European Relations co-edited by Bosniak and Serbian historians) and are internationally recognized. So, I maintain that the dubious statement should remain until we add more reliable sources (I will do it one I get some time). Anyway, I understand your point and will take some time to expand on this using the sources I'm aware of. Boki (talk) 12:54, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ofc Balkan scholars can be reliable; however works published in the Balkans can't be given weight if what they claim counters with what every work published outside of the Balkans says. I hope you get my point. On Elsie and Vickers, their work is focused on Albanian issues, and at least in the case of Elsie on Albanian tribes. Ktrimi991 (talk) 13:02, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because you removed the Albanian name of his birthplace, and because your changes damaged the flow of the text. Ktrimi991 (talk) 11:34, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
