St. Xavier's is one of the most prestigious schools in Nepal well known for providing quality education at affordable prices. For most of its existence it was an all boys school. St. Xavier's started admitting girls in 2001 AD. St. Xavier's consists of three different schools in Nepal all operated by Jesuits. The three schools are located in Godavari, Lalitpur and Maitighar sections of Kathmandu valley.

The main school was established in Lalitpur, a city in Kathmandu valley, in 1951 AD by a group of Jesuit missionaries. It has an all girls sister school nearby named St. Mary's school.

St Xavier's College, Maitighar is located in Maitighar and along with Budhanilkantha is one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

Many graduates end up studying abroad, especially in the United States. Most major universities in the United States have a few St. Xavier's graduates. This is also the source of a rivalry between St. Xavier's and Budhanilkantha students in the united states and is often the topic of debate and flamewars on message boards.
