Categories

Hello. Regarding this recent edit of yours [1], I noticed you attempted to add items directly to a category page.

In Wikipedia, we do not add articles to a category by editing the category page, we add them by editing the individual articles' pages and linking the category from there. Please see Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization#How do I add an article to a category? For newer editors, it's understandably a counter-intuitive system.

Category pages are not intended to be exhaustive lists. In fact, they are not really lists at all in the sense they only display subjects with Wikipedia pages. They are navigation aids; merely groupings of related, existing English Wikipedia pages.

To categorize a page, first make sure the page actually belongs to the category. Then, go to the page you wish to categorize and add the category at the bottom of the page with the other categories. For instructions on how to do this using VisualEditor, see Help:VisualEditor § Editing categories.

For further detailed information, see Help:Category and Wikipedia:Categorization. Let me know if you need any assistance or have any questions. Cheers! --DB1729 (talk) 15:22, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am perplexed. Perhaps you can assist. Nelly Sfeir Gonzalez was founder and editor of the Bolivian Studies Journal, a peer reviewed academic journal. She was elected president of SALALM, a librarian association with international membership. She wrote 5 books, two of which won national awards. Why exactly did you reject her so quickly? Go to Amazon and input her name. Open the Bolivian Studies Journal and see her listed as an Editor Emeritus. Go to Past winners of Jose Toribio Medina Award on the SALALM website and see her name listed. In any case, please assist in editing the page. You seem to be over eager to close the door. You value highly your power to deny access. But in this case your zeal is mis placed. Please go back and re read the page more carefully. There are book reviews cited, etc. I am curious about your own professional background. Might you have your own Wikipedia page? Sincerely, Xavier Serif (talk) 19:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gonzalez may well be notable but your draft was very poorly sourced and was also a copyright infringement so has been deleted. My own professional background is completely irrelevant. Theroadislong (talk) 19:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If poorly sourced, who can assist with sourcing? What exactly is basis for copyright infringement? This appears to be a new claim made after first draft rejected. Put aside your hurt pride and assist in advancing human knowledge. Please specify what you think is copyright infringement to give opportunity for correction. Your professional background is relevant when evaluating the merits of an academic librarian’s career accomplishments…

Xavier Serif (talk) 21:02, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I declined your draft because of poor sourcing, I am not an admin so cannot see the content of your draft now, User:Jimfbleak deleted your draft Draft:Nelly Esther Sfeir de Gonzalez for copyright infringement of https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/19245649/Nelly-Sfeir-Gonzalez you will need to contact them for details. Once again my professional background is NOT relevant when evaluating the merits of an academic librarian’s career. Theroadislong (talk) 21:11, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong, Thanks for ping, I'll reply below Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:05, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Nelly Esther Sfeir de Gonzalez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/19245649/Nelly-Sfeir-Gonzalez. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you have a conflict of interest, you must declare it. Please don't write about your friends, relatives or colleagues, and read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
It's hard to make sense of your supposed refs, none are formatted correctly, most don't have links or have links that don't go anywhere useful, many are inappropriate, including blogs and an on-line encyclopaedia, many are repeated. A obituary in a local newspaper is also unlikely to be a good source.
  • It's unclear whether she meets notablity guidelines, you list honours, but they are unsourced and nothing to suggest the awards are notable themselve
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • The whole text has a gossip column style, eg Growing up, Nelly preferred to play “cops and robbers,” shoot marbles, jump rope and spin the top with her older brother Pepe rather than play “tea time” with dolls with her younger sister Yola, which Nelly did nevertheless to please her.. How does that make "Nelly" notable? Then there's outright spamming like the groundbreaking peer-reviewed Bolivian Studies Journal beginning in 2002. This journal has established itself as the premier international academic journal in its subject matter.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Your text was also badly underlinked, and you should use standard English capitalisation. The primary reason for deletion was that it was largely copied from a page marked © 2017-2022 Tribute Archive. All rights reserved. Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:34, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
