The Spanador

The Spanador is a Labrador cross with a Cocker Spaniel. This hybrid was first created to combat the Labradors hairs shedding but did not work successfully. They were also introduced as an active, medium sized and intelligent dog.

Temperament

Spanadors can be very active and full of energy and need to be walked for at least half an hour a day. They require a lot of attention and sometimes tend to get under your feet. They are very loyal animals and easily trained.

Training

A spanador will recognize his/her name after a few weeks. They are very food oriented so dog treats are a good idea to motivate them. Usually they can be toilet trained within three to four weeks. By that time that can sit on demand. Further training such as the 'stay' command requires more patience and time but with food it can be easily mastered.

Lifestyle

The spanador lives for 12-14 years. It is important if you are looking for a smaller dog that you choose a pup that has more characteristics of a spaniel and if your looking for a larger dog, more characteristics of a labrador. This dog is a very active dog and needs to be walked a least once a day. They can be boisterous so it is advised that they stay away from small children.
