Fair use rationale for Image:TomPettyPlayback.jpg

Image:TomPettyPlayback.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Additional personnel

In listing the personnel, I went through the Playback liner notes and endeavored to include all musicians who play on five or more songs, or who have their own Wikipedia page (or both). I omitted personnel who play on fewer than five songs and who have no Wikipedia page of their own. I feel there must be some limiting criteria, because there are innumerable contributors. As it turns out, the only one who plays on five or more songs but has no Wikipedia page is Phil Jones.

There are spelling mistakes in the Playback liner notes, but I corrected them with the help of allmusic.com and, in the case of the song "Heartbreakers Beach Party", by looking at the sleeve of the single, which contains no apostrophe in the song title. I also confirmed that the Gary Chang to whom I link is indeed a synthesizer player, not just a film score composer (in fact played synthesizer for Stevie Wonder). See the Wikipedia page for "Serge synthesizer" to confirm. Similarly, the Scott Humphrey to whom I link is likewise the correct player, as evidenced by his allmusic.com page. The Playback credits omit Scott Thurston from "King's Highway" live in Gainesville 1993, but his presence at that show is confirmed by the liner notes to The Live Anthology. There is only one backing vocalist on the song, and it is likely Howie not Scott, as indicated by the video of a similar arrangement of the song at the 1994 Bridge School benefit concert. The Playback credits also omit Jeff Lynne's keyboard credit on "Built To Last", but there is an audible synth on the track and with the exception of one song ("All or Nothin'") that is a reworked Mike Campbell demo Lynne plays all synth on the album from which the track comes (Into the Great Wide Open, on which Benmont Tench plays only accordion, piano, and electric piano).

For "Heartbreakers Beach Party" and for "It's Rainin' Again", the Playback liner notes list for backing vocals "Everyone Present". I don't know whether that means musicians only, or also the producer Jimmy Iovine and the engineer Shelly Yakus. Since the latter two were in fact present, and are listed in the notes in their capacities as producer and engineer, I have listed them as contributing backing vocals to these two songs. If I learn that they did not contribute backing vocals to these songs, I will revise the credits accordingly. Iovine's credit on the song "Cracking Up" should remain regardless, as it is included in the Playback liner notes (as "telephone call").

Finally, the Playback liner notes do not list Phil Jones on the Damn The Torpedoes material or its B-sides. I wrote to Mr. Jones and he confirms he did not play on Damn The Torpedoes or on the final version of "Love is a Long Road". In addition, contrary to the Playback liner notes, there are no drums or percussion on "Alright For Now" (and Mr. Jones advises he does not recall playing on it). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.54.54.64 (talk) 06:04, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
