The book jacket for Conversations with Friends says she was born "in the west of Ireland".
Bibliography
I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section using cite templates. Capitalization and punctuation follow standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, as much as Wikipedia templates allow it. ISBNs and other persistent identifiers, where available, are commented out, but still available for reference. This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. Ban on book being published in Hebrew/Israel
Sally Rooney's recent stance on BDS should be mentioned in this article in a abalanced manner, with many states in the USA viewing this stance as anti-semitic, she has targeted just one country whilst allowing numeorus HR abusers throughout the world to publish her books inclusive of China and Russia.
In my opinion there should be mention in the article regarding this worldwide controvesyחיים רקיד (talk) 17:03, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
- The issue is already mentioned in the article. Wikipedia tends to just publish the facts and let readers form their own conclusions and have their own opinions.--Gorpik (talk) 06:51, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
The issue of discrimanatory and biased boycott alleged by many is not brought up at all, Rooney even addressed this complaint as well and should be noted in a balanced way, I allow the readers to form an opinion if this is rooted in anti-semitisim but they way it is portrayed it sounds like a publisher issue which is factually incorrect she is boycotting the whole of the state of Israel. The reader does not understand the paragraph that she would be willing to sell hebrew rights to a BDS compliant publisher, which is impossible & is misleadingחיים רקיד (talk) 08:56, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not the place to discuss whether she is right or wrong.--Gorpik (talk) 13:09, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
But when [blp vio redacted] Most people never heard of her until she supported the BDS.108.7.229.234 (talk) 20:58, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Agreed, I think it should appear that she is diffrentiating between Israel and other countries as that is clear what she is doing, maybe we could have consensus on this חיים רקיד (talk) 07:21, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- Please see WP:BLPTALK. Her stance has likewise not been as described here, she would publish in Hebrew if she could find a publisher that would respect BDS while doing so. That is likewise in the article. nableezy - 19:23, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
I am unsure what you mean, The fact is that she has not held China or Iran to the same yardstick this was mentioned in the WWP and stated by an Israeli Minister. This is fact and has been discussed here on the talk page, חיים רקיד (talk) 22:23, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- An Israeli minister giving an example of whataboutism isnt really relevant to a biography of Sally Rooney. nableezy - 00:19, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
So how would you suggest to include the fact that Sally Rooney position has been decried by numerous around the world as Anti Semitic. You don't like an Israeli minister but you have not addressed the core issue which is that her position which she promoted has been called out as being anti semitic. 95.148.254.166 (talk) 18:26, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- You have produced no reliable sources for your assertion. Provide some and we'll see if your assertion of "numerous", "around the world" & "Anti Semitic" is a) the case and b) due.Selfstudier (talk) 18:40, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- I would not include in a biography of a living person outlandish claims of non-experts that a person is a racist. A number of people who claim that BDS is antisemitic say that this person is. So what? We include that in the BDS article. Much as how actually respectable sources such as Washington Post put it, that critics have charged that BDS itself is antisemitic. That she participates in said boycott is all that is needed here. nableezy - 19:11, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
I disagree, when she takes a public stand boycotting only Israel whilst at the same time publishing her works in China which abuses Uighar Muslims, this is a valid point that should be noted, specifically as it was pointed out worldwide, should you like sources I can post them, but it appeared in every major newspaper in Europe USA, Australia and the ME. Pointing out the Hypocricay of her stance should be acceptedחיים רקיד (talk) 18:15, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- What appeared in those newspapers, and what is documented here, is that she declined to allow an Israeli publisher to publish her work in support of BDS. The whataboutism that some people have attacked her with isnt appropriate here, it isnt any notable criticism of her but rather of BDS. The issue on if BDS is antisemitic is covered in the article on BDS. nableezy - 19:02, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Haim, you damn yourself by your own words. "Pointing out the Hypocricay of her stance", even if spelt correctly, is exactly the sort of thing that the BLP rules are intended to prevent. If someone criticised China for abusing Uighars, would we add to their article a claim that they are racist hypocrites because they don't also criticise Israel for abusing Palestinians?
