Jovelyn Galleno (born October 15, 1999 – disappeared August 5, 2022) was a Filipina 22-year-old mall worker in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. She was reported missing on August 5, 2022, according to her sister. The employer of Galleno stated that she already logged out in Robinsons Mall around 6:30 p.m. on that day.[1]

Background and disappearance

Galleno was graduating of criminology student and working as a sales lady at Robinsons Mall. She has been reported missing since August 5, 2022 after failing to return home following her shift at the mall. Before Galleno's family could worry, she texted her sister asking "what's for dinner" and revealed that she didn't get a salary from his employer.[2]

The mall operator released a video of Galleno entering the establishment but refused to provide a copy of the footage of Galleno leaving the area. The Philippine National Police is contacting the Local Government of Puerto Princesa and the Land Transportation Office to find the vehicle in which she was kidnapped.[3]

Investigation

According to Police Captain Victoria Carmen C. Iquin, of the Puerto Princesa City Police Office, based on the CCTV footage they gathered from inside and outside of Robinsons Mall where Galleno works, she rode in a white multicab from Robinsons Mall to Sta. Lourdes.[4]

On August 23, 2022, of early morning, the authorities were exposed of the skeleton in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa.[5] In this regard, Galleno's mother confirmed at Police Station earlier that the IDs and other equipment found from Galleno. Despite the mourning, the family wants the remains to be subjected to a DNA test.[6]

Suspects on Jovelyn Galleno case

The suspect, who is reportedly a relative of the victim, was also implicated in the case. Leobert Dasmariñas, who confronted the police and identified Galleno's location. Jovert Valdestamon, who was also an accomplice when the crime happened. In addition, it was found that the two suspects are full relatives of Galleno. According to the story of the suspects, they planned the crime while they were waiting to return home in Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa.[7] The first suspect he followed Galleno when she got out of the white multicab while the second suspect waited in front. They dragged Galleno and took him in the woodland area after making sure no one was there.[8]

Dasmariñas, one of the two suspects who allegedly abducted, abused and eventually killed Galleno. He recounted the detail to how he and another cousin, whom he identified as Valdestamon, waited for Galleno to get out of the white multicab she was riding. He then tells how Valdestamon dragged his cousin to a certain place where he committed the cowardly act on him. Dasmariñas had earlier pointed out to the agents of the Philippine National Police the place where Galleno's body was allegedly left.[9]

Stabbing incident

According to Jenelyn Ugalino, Jovert Valdestamon's sister, before the discovery of the skeleton suspected of being Galleno, her brother mentioned that he and Dasmariñas discussed the plan to abduct Galleno.[10] The two got into a heated argument and Dasmariñas stabbed Valdestamon in the back and side on August 19, 2022, but he was escaped with the bladed weapon that was Dasmariñas used until his arrest.[11] The two first argued on the cellphone when Valdestamon asked Dasmariñas about the abducted woman and where she would be buried. Dasmariñas emphasized that Valdestamon was involved in the rape of Galleno. Dasmariñas also pointed out to the police the exact place where the skeleton believed to be those of their cousin Galleno were left.[12]

Chief Police Major Noel Manalo said Dasmariñas wanted to silence Valdestamon so there would be no witness in the rape-slay of Galleno, which they allegedly committed.[13]

On August 26, 2022, Dasmariñas admitted that Galleno was not the skeleton found in Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa and someone said that Leobert Dasmariñas was only ordered by people about the Galleno disappearance case.[14]

Theory

Many say that the mythical snake-like creature that haunts Robinsons Mall is the cause of Galleno's disappearance.[15][16]
