Requiem: Desiderium Mortis (formerly subtitled Bloodymare, Memento Mori and Rise of the Reaver) is a free-to-play horror-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed and published by Gravity in 2008.

Gameplay

Requiem: Desiderium Mortis is a action heavy horror MMO that features monster dismemberment and gore effects. Currently the only server is a open world pvp server, where players can choose to attack any other player not who is not an allied guild member. It features disturbing imagery evocative of movies like John Carpenters: The Thing, the movies of David Chronenberg and the artwork of H.R. Giger and Horror manga artist Junji Ito. Every 24 in game hours when the clock strikes midnight powerful and unsettling monsters appear in the game world surprising unprepared players with unexpected challenges. The players themselves can also transform into their race's Possession Beast form, granting them near immunity to all forms of CC and increased damage and stats.

It offers Multiple forms of PvP battles with one offering all players over powered and equally balanced gear, levels and temporary stat points. There is also an open world player killing system, where a player can register another as an enemy and attack them in most areas of the game. From the other players who threaten you, the horrifying Nightmare monsters and to the raid dungeons the game encourages cooperation between players to thrive.

The monetization of the game comes from its cash shop where players can buy skill resets, experience boosts, early game mounts and many other cosmetic and temporary bonuses.

The UI and combat is close to other MMOs of the late 2000's and early 2010's. It uses the Havoc physics engine to animate blood effects and creature limbs. The game is a bit unintuitive with its gameplay functions and character progression systems. There are parts of the game that seems to be mistranslated or uses confusing syntax. The crafting system is robust but does feature a confusing progression tree due to feature creep as well as a chance to lose equipment when you fail to upgrade it too many times which can be offputting.

Plot

The game takes place in a post apocalyptic steampunk world where mad science unleashed a great calamity that warped the planet and twisted the creatures; weakening the veil between the normal plane of existence and a bordering nightmare world akin to Clive Barkers: Hellraiser. The players are Temperions; reanimated dead bodies brought back without memories or souls via science and clerical magic to try and hold back the tide of unspeakable horrors and to protect the survivors.
