    Out of curiosity, I took a look. And I found a table with a few cells that were clearly shifted out of position. I fixed that; I trust the data I moved to appropriate columns are also in the rows to which they apply. It was largely a matter of correcting a couple of row span arguments.     List Page: List of 3D printed weapons and parts

    Was looking through some info to see what pages exist on 3d printed gun modification and found this page List of 3D printed weapons and parts. Seems kind of an odd page to maintain on this wiki. Additional set of eyes on it in some wider forum might be helpful to determine if its AfD or is notable enough as a topic, as discussed a while back on the talk page.     @Johnjacksonhtx: It appears you're referring to commons:File:Finnih in 2017 moderating a debate at Texas Southern University.jpg, which is marked as "a copyright violation because it is copyrighted and not published under a free license."     Orange Grove Gauteng

    Good Day, I was born & grew up in Orange Grove. Your Wikipedia article stated that in the 1970s in was know as little Italy due to the fact that some italiand had looked for work and settled in Orange Grove. I would like to go a little further into the history. During World War II there was a prisoner war camp established at Sonderwater where numerous Italian soldiers were held as prisoners of war. I had an uncle who was held captive as a POW in Italy. When the Germans were advancing into Italy he and many others Escaped. He hid in the mountains where some Italians fed him and gave him blakets to keep warm. Those same people had relatives here at Sonderwater a POW's. They comucincated by post and my uncle was lucky enough to send some messages to South Africa. During the weekends these Italian soldiers could have a pass and were let out. These Italian relatives found out through my uncle where my parents lived in Orange Grove. So they delivered messages to my parents saying my uncle was safe. A lot of these same Italian soldiers then returned to South AFrica aafter the war with a quite a few setting up home in Orange Grove as they new the area and liked it from visiting my parents and others.

    This is one of the main reasons Orange Grove was known as Little Italy.

    Just thought I would let your interesting Wikipedia knew more facts about the area I know like the back of my hand.

    E-mail preferences

    I have an e-mail address associated with my account at en.wiki. Is there a way to retain that on en.wiki but remove it from other Wikimedia projects? And, if the answer is yes, can I do it without going to my preferences on each project (the language barriers are a nightmare)? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    @Bbb23: Email adresses can only be specified globally across all projects. It is, however, possible to restrict other projects from sending you emails by first turning all email-related preferences off everywhere using Special:GlobalPreferences, and then selectively reenabling the email preferences for specific projects by visiting that project's version of Special:Preferences. (Oh and you can also set a unified language for the system interface and system emails using Special:GlobalPreferences) Victor Schmidt (talk) 14:56, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @Victor Schmidt: I generally think that the developers design some of these things in a manner that is least helpful. Putting that gripe aside, I tried following your first suggestion and after managing to "ungray" things at GlobalPeferences, I turned off e-mail and clicked on Save.     @Bbb23: I can't identify the problem. Could you please confirm for the first step, that in your Special:GlobalPreferences, in the line that says "Allow other users to email me" that the first checkbox is checked, and the second checkbox is unchecked?     And it works, at least for other users trying to mail you. You can be mailed here at Special:EmailUser/Bbb23 but when your username is entered at de:Special:EmailUser it says (with English Interface): "This user has chosen not to receive email from other users." A page like de:Special:EmailUser/Bbb23 used to also say this but not since 2018 (phab:T209786). Now it just asks for a username. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:38, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Cross namespace page move

    File:Maria_Bregman.jpg Looking for a second opinion, I've never made (iirc) a cross namespace move. The request is to move it to article space, however I feel it should be moved to draft space.     Pictures don't belong in either article or draft space, but File: space, where it is. However the article content does need moving to a draft: I don't think this can be done by a move, though, but requires a cut and paste. ColinFine (talk) 19:24, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @ColinFine: There is a duplicate file File:Maria Bregman writer.jpg, so C/P the article content to Draft:Maria Bregman and delete File:Maria_Bregman.jpg as {{nowcommons}}? Seems correct, but that's why I'm here :P I now see the draft exists also, so just use the file on Commons for the draft and CSD File:Maria_Bregman.jpg?     How to put inline citations in an infobox

    I'm trying to clean up the cite-web references in the article for the Ahsoka Tano page, where it says George Lucas created the character and then links, but the references do not closed </ref> tags. But when I add them ,suddenly the infobox continuing information disappears.     If, using a mobile device, I go to it:Harriet (film) in Italian language Wikipedia and I press the "other languages" button, it tell me something like "no other languages available".

    But if I go to Harriet (film) in English language Wikipedia, I can get the Italian one.

    Is there guidance on writing a draft for location that's currently a redirect

    I am preparing to write a draft article for a location that is currently a redirect to another article, but is, at least in my view, independently notable.     @TartarTorte: I don't think it's any different from writing any other article: gather multiple independent reliable sources that have provided significant coverage of the subject, and determine whether it meets Wikipedia's notability criteria. If it does, then could follow the instructions at Help:Your first article. If the redirect used to be an article, you can look at the history to see the last version of the article.     Want to add audio on a wikipedia

    Hii,

    I want to add music audio on a wikipedia article. I've seen some articles where there are music audio provided with them along with their photos. However, I don't have any idea how to do that or where to bring and add that audio.     It depends to some extent on whether the audio is copyrighted. If it is not copyrighted, you can make the clip as long as you like and upload it to Wikimedia Commons. If it is copyrighted (eg a clip from a pop song), it must have a fair use rationale and be kept to 30 seconds or less, otherwise it will get deleted. Audio clips uploaded to Wikipedia should usually be in Ogg Vorbis format, although FLAC and WAV will work.     Hello, Doublebara13. I guess that this is about Barbara Kalik, where you made a change, and Theroadislong reverted it because it was unsourced.
    First, please understand that Wikipedia requires published sources for all information, especially about living people. We have no way of knowing whether you are Barbara Kalik, or a random vandal. We need a published source for the name change in order for the article to reflect it.
    Secondly, assuming you are Barbara Kalik, please be aware of our policies on editing with a conflict of interest.     Please could you guide me? I wrote my first contribution over eight months ago, "Strange Pill", I'm not sure why it hasn't been published. Please could you tell me if there are any problems? Are there any changes that need to be made? I'm sure it's not perfect but I think these guys are doing amazing things and believe they should be listed. There are no articles about them in the New York Times but they have been working with organisations like the New York Philharmonic, exhibited in international festival and have recently been given an award by the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop which I would understand gives them relevance.

    But I predict that if you do submit it in its present form, it will not be accepted. Unfortunately, you have done what many many new Wikipedia editors do, and plunge into the very difficult task of creating a new article before you have acquired enough experience to understand what is required.
    On a quick scan, most of your citations are to their performances, or to venues or events where they performed. Not one of these contributes to establishing that they meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, and it ends up looking as if you're hoping that dozens of zeros added together will add up to something. I'm not meaning to disparage them - they may be doing wonderful work. But Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources.     Wikipedia App Display Page Format

    How do I turn off the “Table of Contents” on the left side when I am reading an article? It takes up too much real estate.

    I am a “user” of Wikipedia. I wish there was a positive way to have another word than “user”. “User” feels somewhat demeaning.

    e-mail address changed on old account

    I created a Wikipedia account 10 years ago and made a few edits at that time. I forgot my password and requested a reset, but I didn't receive a password reset e-mail. I believe I changed my e-mail address shortly after creating this account. Is there anyway I can rejoin the community with my original user name?     Hello. This would only be possible if you can regain access to the old email account. If not, you can create a new account with a similar username, and note the connection on your new userpage.     I would advise to create a different account (for instance, "Virtual Dynamo 2" should be accepted by the software), edit a bit, and later you can ask at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations to "usurp" the old name. (Not really an "usurpation" if you’re usurping yourself, but hey, that’s the process - we have no way to know that you are the real Virtual Dynamo.) If you ask now, someone will point you to the third note (we prefer only to grant requests from reasonably well-established users.).     September 13

    How is the main page ("Main Page") *NOT* displaying its title ("Main Page") like other pages do?

    The main page is named "Main Page". Most pages automatically display their title as an H1 near the top, but Main Page does not (at least not in the skin I'm using, which is apparently MonoBook). How is this being accomplished?

    I thought maybe it was using a template, magic word, or custom CSS to do this, but I've tried and failed to find such a thing in use: I found that Template:DISPLAYTITLE exists, but I don't see it being used in the source of Main Page. Nor do I see any of the page name-related magic words used there. And I found that Main Page uses Wikipedia:Main Page/styles.css, but I don't see anything in that CSS to suppress display of the title.

    To be clear, I know that it does say "main page" as the name of one of its top tabs (in the spot where a "normal" article would have an "article" tab). I don't see how that's happening either, but in any case it's not what I'm talking about: I'm talking about the thing that on a "normal" article would be an H1 displayed under the tab row, and above the "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" line.

    @Rwv37: Afaik, the title of the main page can be set by editing the MediaWiki:Mainpage-title special page on a given wiki running the MediaWiki software. For Wikipedia, the special page is purposefully left empty to not show a title. Regards SoWhy 08:24, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Source clean up?

    Hi, I remember a couple of months ago I was using this tool where you could go through pages that had {{citation needed}} tags and you could fill them in. It also had other options such as selecting a specific WikiProject such as Medicine. I'm not too sure where to find this tool again, and if someone could point me in the right direction that'd be swell. I thought it was quite fun, if I'm going to be honest.     I suggest to create a new category in English in order to include the subjects of the German category https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Tr%C3%A4ger_des_Goldenen_Parteiabzeichens_der_NSDAP. Is there a need for something else (particularly given that many of the articles in de:Kategorie:Träger des Goldenen Parteiabzeichens der NSDAP do not currently have corresponding English articles).     @Alexander Tendler: Wikipedia languages are edited independently and decide their own rules. Maybe the other languages have other requirements for categories. The original nomination said "Per WP:OVERLAPCAT and WP:OCAWARD (WP:NONDEFINING)". Maybe they have no specific rules. The English Wikipedia is larger and has more rules and processes. Maybe they do fail local rules or practice but haven't been subject to a disscussion. None of it matters here. Content in the English Wikipedia is not determined by other languages and there is no "necessity" to do something just because some other languages do it.     Youtube as a source

    Can a youtube video be used as a source to prove something exists? See this diff, the youtube video that directly proves it is here.     My page called: God's Closet

    Hello,

    I'm not sure you can help me but I found no other place to ask my question so I'm sending it here. I paid a website to help me get a page about a ministry that I founded posted on Wikipedia. The page on Wikipedia that I am trying to get listed will be called: God's Closet.

    I paid the website that I found online the money they asked for to help people list their page, they did assisted me with creating the content, I provided the pictures and the detailed links. They said that they worked along with you, --I don't understand how to get the page on Wikipedia so that is why I paid for their assistance and to help me to go through the process of getting my page (God's Closet) on Wikipedia. Their website is called wikisysops.com. I have waited for a while now for the page to be listed on Wikipedia. I've called wikisysops and no one answers. They have now had 3 people working with me, first it was Jane then she disappeared, I've sent messages with no reply. They say they will check with Wikipedia and get back to me, but they don't. I am now very concerned if this was a legitimate transaction and/or if wisksysops is genuine or if I got taken for my money and it was a scam.

    I'm reaching out to you to find out if you could please kindly help. I'd like to know if the page's information was at all submitted to you by wikisysops.com. If I am contacting the wrong area of Wikipedia to ask this question and ask for assistance would you please give me details on the correct place where I could go and ask this question to get some answers. I am very worried.

    Agreed; you fell for a scam which preys on people who both fundamentally misunderstand Wikipedia's purpose and desperately want an article for whatever reason. (As a general rule, it's highly unlikely any organisation that has just been founded will have enough third-party sources to warrant an article.)     • "I don't understand how to get the page on Wikipedia" - Unfortunately, if you are trying to get a page about yourself or your organization on Wikipedia, you've already made a mistake.
    • "Their website is called wikisysops.com." - Thank you. That information will help us in the never ending fight against abusive editing practices. When I looked at their website they provided Kendare Blake as an example of what they claim is "30,000+ profiles" they created (this number is doubtful). People visiting that page now will be greeted with a banner informing them that "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use." Hopefully that will help dissuade some future "customers" of theirs from falling into their trap.

I can tell you that Draft:God's Closet has never existed, nor has God's Closet. There is no deletion log indicating they have ever been deleted. I do not believe a draft was ever submitted.
    • Wikipedia is not intended to be an advertising platform. The thousands of volunteers who have dedicated hours of their free time to building this resource get annoyed at people trying to use it as such. They get annoyed at scammers exploiting the success of their efforts.
    • In order for an article about something to continue exist, the article needs to demonstrate that the topic meets a requirement that we call Notability. The key to notability is "A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." In most cases, if a topic reaches the level of notability we are looking for, eventually a volunteer editor will take interest and write an article without having to be asked.
    • I did a quick Google search, and so far as I can tell, there appear to be several things with that name, and none of them appear to reach the threshold of notability required at this time. Now, I could be wrong, I didn't do a through search, but odds are that no article can be created that would survive an deletion discussion at this time.
    • I suggest you use this as a learning experience. Stop trying to get God's Closet on Wikipedia. Do not give money to scammers that could be put to better use doing the work of your ministry. Let your ministry produce good fruit, and by your fruit you will be known.

    I would like to comment on the name wikisysops.com. Sysop is outdated slang for an administrator on Wikipedia. I am one of about 480 active administrators on the English Wikipedia, and I can assure you that any administrator who worked for such a sleazy organization would have their administrator rights removed in short order. We are forbidden to use our administrative tools for money. Their claim of having created 30,000 "profiles" is ludicrous. These people are liars and con artists. Sorry that you got scammed.     Help with Transclusion from a section on New Zealand national football team page to New Zealand national football team records and statistics

    Another user has tried to use transclusion to take the player records from the NZ football team article and have them appear under the Individual records on NZ football statistics article. They didn't complete it correctly and I can't figure out why it isn't working either. They did do a start and end section using "Player records NZL" has the label. Just to note, there is also a template already called New Zealand national football team too that I'm not sure if that is causing issues with this too?
