Ethan Chidiebere Nwaneri (born 21 March 2007) is an English footballer who plays for Arsenal. He is born to Nigerian parents and is the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League.

Nwaneri made his Premier League debut against Brentford F.C. in September 2022, becoming the youngest ever player ever to appear in the English top flight of football.[1]

Career

Nwaneri joined up with Arsenal at nine years-old. By the age of 14 he was already playing for their under-18 side. Predominantly he plays as a midfielder.[1]

Nwaneri started the 2022–23 season playing for Arsenal under-18s but such was his form he was progressed up to the Arsenal under-21s.[2] He joined the Arsenal first team for training in September,[3] and made his first Arsenal Premier League match day squad on 18 September for the match against Brentford, and was then included among the match day substitutes for Arsenal.[4] His appearance as a substitute at 15 years, 181 days broke the records for the youngest ever Premier League appearance and youngest ever Arsenal appearance, being younger than Harvey Elliott’s 16 years and 30 days Premier League appearance for Fulham and the 16 years and 256 days of Jack Wilshere Arsenal debut.[5]

Style of play

He has been described as a “number 10” who plays with flair but can also dribble well, and is versatile enough to play wide as well as central.[6]
