Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by AnnLWSFebruary84wiki (talk | contribs) at 23:12, 3 October 2022 (Draft:The Lesbian Writers Series: Reply). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in two cases. The first case is restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions (G6) or stale Articles for creation drafts (G13)), or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. In the second use case, this page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be "userfied", i.e., restored as a draft or emailed to you; this way, the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). Be clear as to which namespace is intended, when requesting a refund of a deleted article.

This means that content deleted after discussion – through deletion processes – may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process but through deletion review instead. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided.

    Do not request that pages or media deleted under speedy deletion criteria F7, F9, F11, U5, A7, A9, A11, G3, G4, G10, G11 or G12 be undeleted here.

    Instructions for special cases:

Hi, I'm Fabiendeboyser, and I would like to request the undeletion of this draft deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page so that I can make edits to it. Thank you. We are currently working on this and validating all the comments, references, redaction quality, with the peers in the Industry. Currently we have been experiencing some delays due to the latest rejection from Sly, which was not clear to us. In this case, would it makes sense to have a second opinion from someone with expertise in the Semiconductor Industry? Fabiendeboyser (talk) 12:00, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is one of the most important figures in Arabic typography and in non-Latin typography in general. He is a leading academic in the field, having published important studies, as well as a consequential practitioner of typography and a founder of DecoType. See, for example: Nemeth, Titus (2017). • Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thomas Milo, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, MBisanz (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. Hut 8.5 12:02, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MBisanz, you are the administrator that closed that discussion and I left a message on your talk page but you never responded. إيان (talk) 06:08, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jay Yes I would, thank you for offering. I've already started a deletion review, though. There seems to be consensus behind me. إيان (talk) 16:32, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    • Done – as a draft that was deleted under CSD G13, the page has been restored upon request. However, the draft namespace, though it is intended to provide some breathing room to create and develop a page without the time pressure of immediate review, is not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the article mainspace. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion and then submit it for review—at the least, prior to another six months elapsing. When you are ready, a review can be requested by placing this code at the top of the page and then saving: {{subst:submit}}. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:38, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to have a look at the deleted article? I'd like to have a look at it and see the standard of how it has been written as I don't believe it was written up to standards for WP:GNG.
There have been lawsuits involving Craig S. Wright this year (founder of BSV). BSV has been getting delisted from many exchanges - significant coverage on this [1] [2]
There are numerous scholarly papers published in 2022, which can be contributed to the article i.e. security attacks on the BSV network, mining, volatility of BSV [3]
      Lawsuits [4] [5] [6]

I was wondering if there might be a possibility of restoring this page. Just a year after the page was deleted, the actor died. As a result, various obituaries were published. Some of these could be used as references. Liston was known for appearing in popular franchises such as Star Wars and Doctor Who, as well as being involved in theatre (Theatricalia may help), appeared in panto, playing Mr Chairman in over 3000 Music Hall / Variety shows and first brought the Mr Men to stage. Was also a supporter and advocate of prostate cancer research due to his tragic illness.

Some sources I have come across that could be helpful.

    • RIP - Ian Liston (from Rebelscum forums - includes funeral programme cover and truth behind his passing)

Would it be possible to undelete this page so necessary changes can be applied using the above. It would help notability. Unfortunately, Sandstein who removed the page won't restore it but has directed me here. Many thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Silurian25 (talkcontribs) 11:19, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Sandbox:Diegoesquivel2004

Hello, I just found found out todat that my sandbox was deleted by Liz, according to the CSD:U5 due to misuse as a webhost. A few weeks ago, I deleted all my previous drafts I made and left with only one, which was a draft for my user page. The problem is I made a mistake, being that the "External Links" was meant to be a subtitle (three equal signs) to that draft, and I put only two. I was meant to fix up that mistake but due to being busy with study and works, I never did, so today I was notified on my talk page that my sandbox was deleted due to misusing as a webhost, which is actually not true. I also was meant to be working on it and draw a draft for Hardwell's second studio album "Rebels Never Die". I hope there's a solution, and if it's possible, I'm gonna remove those links to avoid sandbox being deleted again. Thank you. —Diego Esquivel (Got any questions?) 20:13, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I would like to submit as a WIKIPEDIA page for the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES.
Brief History of the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES – written by LWS founder Ann Bradley
LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES – brief History by Ann Bradley
On Labor Day Monday September 1, 1980, Ann Bradley met Carolyn Weathers and her sister Brenda Weathers at an evening gathering at Plummer Park in West Hollywood. Carolyn cradled the manuscript of her memoir CRAZY about her ordeals in Hollywood with bipolar depression. It was later published by CLOTHESPIN FEVER PRESS which she founded with her then-partner Jenny Wrenn in May 1990.
Bradley became friends with both Brenda and Carolyn – two extraordinary women. Brenda Weathers founded THE ALCOHOLISM CENTER FOR WOMEN in 1974 at an old mansion at 1147 South Alvarado – the first-ever recovery house for lesbian alcoholics. Brenda ran ACW until moving to the northeast United States with a partner in the late 70s. She returned after that relationship terminated and also after living in an actual haunted house which she later documented in a novel THE HOUSE AT PELHAM FALLS published in 1986. In 1980 she was living on Alessandro St. just north of Sunset Blvd in the Silver Lake neighborhood in Los Angeles, where Bradley spent many happy occasions in the early 80s.
Ann Bradley became a huge fan of Carolyn Weathers’ writing, attending readings of her plays and prose. The LOS ANGELES READER, a monthly publication, published her short story TRACKING DOWN VIVIENNE in fall 1983 and Bradley printed it and sent it out with her December 1983 holiday cards. Then one very rainy Monday evening in January 1984 Bradley accompanied Carolyn to a reading at Pam Roberts now sadly closed THREE GUINEAS women’s bookstore in Newport Beach, CA. Only about 10 folks attended. Carolyn read from her memoir LEAVING TEXAS. It was only about 75 pages, but a luminous, extraordinary examination of her childhood and young adult life in her home state. Attendees sat rhapsodically as Carolyn read portions. When she stopped, they begged her to continue and Pam Roberts urged her to read the entire book.
Driving back into Los Angeles passing a marshy area off the 55-freeway nearing the 405 Bradley told Carolyn that those at the reading couldn’t be the only ones to hear her amazing words. Ann Bradley went into A DIFFERENT LIGHT BOOKS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Different_Light_(bookstore) the very next morning where she’d worked as a clerk since the previous November 1983 and asked manager John Ruggles and store co-founder Richard LaBonte if she could start a writer’s series for lesbian writers and launch it that February with Carolyn. Ruggles and LaBonte were extraordinarily supportive. Had it not been for their devoted support the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES would never have happened.
By way of background, A DIFFERENT LIGHT BOOKS was founded by Norman Laurila (https://www.nytimes.com/1999/05/23/nyregion/coping-a-small-bookstore-under-big-pressure.html) with the assistance of his devoted friend Richard LaBonte in October 1979. Norman’s lover was George Leigh, a wealthy Canadian attorney who met Norman in Montreal.
Richard LaBonte (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Labont%C3%A9) was a well-respected journalist working for some of Canada’s largest newspapers. He was friends and former lovers with Norman. In perfect Henry Higgins style, wealthy George Leigh had told his younger lover Norman Laurila that he wanted to set him up in a shop. Norman wanted a gay bookstore and started researching the best areas. The nation’s first gay bookstore was GIOVANNI’S ROOM on 12th Street in Philadelphia.
Norman researched Los Angeles and discovered that the BLACK CAT TAVERN at 3909 Sunset Blvd (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Cat_Tavern), just east of what would become A DIFFERENT LIGHT BOOKS in Silver Lake, was the site of the nation’s first Gay Rights Protest, preceding the Stonewall Riots in 1969. Indeed, it was at the time the largest documented LGBTQ civil rights demonstration in the nation, leading many to recognize it as the birthplace of a worldwide movement. The demonstration took place on Feb. 11, 1967, in response to a New Year’s Eve police raid at the popular gay bar weeks before.
Per Wikipedia: “The BLACK CAT bar was established in November 1966; two months later, on New Year's Eve, several plainclothes Los Angeles Police Department officers infiltrated the tavern. According to local gay newspaper Tangents, "the Black Cat was happy and hopping" before undercover police arrived and started beating patrons as they were ringing in the New Year: "There were colored balloons covering the ceiling ... and three glittering Christmas trees." Moments later, “all hell broke loose.” After arresting several patrons for kissing as they celebrated the occasion, the undercover police officers began beating several of the patrons and ultimately arrested fourteen patrons for "assault and public lewdness.” Two bartenders were beaten unconscious. Two patrons fled to another gay bar, New Faces, but they were followed by police and arrested. The officers mistook the manager, a woman named Lee Roy, for a man (named "Leroy") wearing a dress, and beat her severely. Contrary to popular myth, there was no "riot" at the Black Cat, but a civil demonstration of 200 attendees to protest the raids was held on February 11, 1967. The demonstration was organized by a group called PRIDE (Personal Rights in Defense and Education) – founded by Steve Ginsberg – and the SCCRH (Southern California Council on Religion and Homophile). The protest was met by squadrons of armed policemen. Demonstrators carefully adhered to all laws and ordinances so that the police had no legitimate reasons to make arrests. The event was the first organized public LGBTQ protest in Los Angeles, and one of the earliest and largest in the country.”
Norman Laurila recognized that the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles was a gay-friendly area and wisely launched the first A DIFFERENT LIGHT store at 4014 Santa Monica Blvd, the eastward terminus of Santa Monica Blvd. at the Sunset Junction at Sunset Blvd.
Ann Bradley first went into the store in early 1980. She was then working as a vocational counselor for the Job Training and Partnership Act (JTPA) launched by the Reagan Administration in 1981 at a partnership between the City of Pasadena, Pasadena City College and Pasadena Unified School District at what was then the Community Skills Center on Oak Knoll in Pasadena. Bradley had previously been a vocational counselor for the City of Los Angeles under the federal CETA program from 1979 through April 1981. After four years as a vocational counselor, she decided to take a year off and find a less stressful job. Sitting with a friend at what was then THE GO BETWEEN coffee house on Sunset at the Sunset Junction, a friend asked where I’d work if I could do anything. “Work at a bookstore,” was my replay. “Well girl, walk over to A DIFFERENT LIGHT and ask for a holiday job,” the friend wisely advised.
Bradley began working as a store clerk on Sunday November 20, 1983. That day none other than acclaimed writer Christopher Isherwood and his longtime partner artist Don Bachardy were signing their book OCTOBER at A DIFFERENT LIGHT, a collection of Bachardy’s drawings and selections from Isherwood’s diary.
The LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES launched on Saturday February 18, 1984. Carolyn had it videotaped and that video is in her collection at ONE ARCHIVES at the University of Southern California. The store was packed with lesbians that night as it was on all subsequent LWS events. Women said they were thrilled to have a place to go other than a bar to meet each other.
Bradley met with a number of women of color while producing the LWS to ensure it was only a white woman showcase. That led to invitations to women such as Kitty Tsui and her then partner Willyce Kim who, per Wikipedia, “is generally recognized to be the first openly-lesbian, Asian American poet to be published in the United States.” African American women and Latinas were also extremely helpful in suggesting various authors – published and unpublished. From its inception, the LESBIAN WRITRERS SERIES was never a white women series.
Richard LaBonte performed one of his innumerable services when he calmly, but firmly, called the Los Angeles Times book section calendar editor to insist that the monthly event be correctly called the LESBIAN WITERS SERIES when the first notice in the Los Angeles Times book calendar, incorrectly called the SERIES the Women’s Writers Series.
During Bradley’s seven years (1984 through 1990) producing the series the LWS hosted many remarkable and iconic talents such at the luminous Pat Parker in her last public reading in March 1989 prior to her very untimely death from cancer the following June. Bradley brought Joan Nestle to Los Angeles for her first-ever west coast appearances in a wonderful week-long series of readings from January 15 to January 21, 1989, including University of California, Irvine (set up by UCI staffer Pat Callahan), UCLA (part of a lesbian series produced by Mary Margaret Smith), California State University and the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES. Joan Nestle’s visit was made possible largely because of donations from California State University, Los Angeles University Librarian Morris Polan. Bradley was then working as a Public Affairs Manager at Cal State L.A., her alma mater. Cal State LA was also responsible for bringing both Pat Parker and Cheryl Clarke to speak during Women’s Week in March 1989 and that Saturday on the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES – Parker’s last public appearance.
Producing the first seven years of the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES, Bradley was supported by many people including John Ruggles, Richard LaBonte and Norman Laurila of A DIFFERENT LIGHT BOOKS and also the wondrous Nancy Bereano founder of FIREBRAND BOOKS, one of the nation’s first lesbian publishing companies. Sandy Pinney, who Bradley met in November 1972 at a McGovern for President rally, printed the fliers for the LWS. Sandy Pinney first took Bradley to the Los Angeles Women’s Building on Wednesday November 24, 1976 in its first location, the old Chouinard Arts College building located at 743 South Grand View Street near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, before Chouinard was bought by the Disney Corporation and rebuilt as the California Institute of the Arts. Cal Arts mavens Judy Chicago and others would start Woman House in an old mansion at 533 N. Mariposa Ave. in Hollywood and later found the WOMANS BUILDING at the Grand View location.
No internet existed in the 1980s. A DIFFERENT LIGHT produced a flier of the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES with photos of all the women to appear the upcoming year with hopes every lesbian-owned refrigerator in Southern California would have the LWS flier prominently displayed.
Two years into the LWS Bradley launched a second series THE LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES TWO to showcase the work of lesbian playwrights. Among others, poet and writer Terry Wolverton staged a performance of her play on that series and it was performed at CELEBRATION THEATRE the Los Angeles gay/lesbian theater company where Bradley had been a board member.
In late 1990 after producing seven years of readings, Bradley told Richard LaBonte and John Ruggles she was stepping down and suggested an avid LWS supporter Gail Suber as the new coordinator. Bradley had started a 20-year career as a publicist for non-profit and public institutions including Cal State Los Angeles. Gail took the reins with gusto and mounted the 1991 LWS. In 1992 writer Sophia Corleone took over with Gail Suber’s help and produced the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES through its very last reading with none other than Joan Nestle on Saturday November 14, 1998, marking more than 15 years of what became a nationally recognized platform for lesbian writers.
Sophia Corleone did a masterful job. She produced postcards for each monthly event with photos of each of the writers. In the later 90s Sophia moved the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES from A DIFFERENT LIGHT and made it a stand-alone event and held readings at Plummer Park on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood just west of La Brea.
In 1989, Carolyn Weathers and her then partner Jenny Wrenn published the first 5 years of writers on the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES with their book IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT produced by their publishing company CLOTHESPIN FEVER PRESS. A phenomenal publication party was held at the WOMANS BUILDING in its final and longest location on Spring Street just southeast of Chinatown in Los Angeles on Friday February 24 1989. Bradley opened the reception calling it, “. . . the best high school reunion we never had!”
For the 11th anniversary of the founding of A DIFFERENT LIGHT, then store manager Jim Morrow asked to honor Bradley for founding the LWS. The event took place Friday October 19, 1990. Carolyn Weathers, Eloise Klein Healy and Sophia Corleone read.
On Sunday March 28, 2004, at the behest of ONE Archives director Stuart Timmons (who would write THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY HAY and later in collaboration with Lillian Faderman, who appeared on the LWS, GAY L.A.) honored the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES and Carolyn Weathers and Jenny Wrenn for founding CLOTHESPIN FEVER PRESS.
The event was covered by the Los Angeles Times that ran the following article the next day:
“Gathering Celebrates Literary Series for Lesbian Writers - Founded in 1984, the readings have provided a platform for women to share prose and poetry.
Los Angeles March 29, 2004|Jia-Rui Chong | Times Staff Writer
Twenty years ago -- before Ellen DeGeneres came out and before the "L-word" entered the mainstream vocabulary -- the Lesbian Writers Series began raising the visibility of women who wished to publicly acknowledge their lesbian identity. About 60 people gathered Sunday to celebrate the literary series, a platform for women to share their work and confront their identity. The gathering also paid tribute to Clothespin Fever Press, the area's first commercial book publisher dedicated to lesbian authors. Over the years, some 300 women -- and a handful of men -- have read their poetry and prose before audiences at local bookstores. Distinguished lesbian authors such as Joan Nestle often made their first public readings in California at the Lesbian Writers Series. The event also attracted such literary stars as June Jordan and Angela Y. Davis.
Ann Bradley was working as a clerk at the gay and lesbian bookstore A Different Light when she founded the series in 1984. At the time, she was frustrated by the fact that women writers reading their works would not acknowledge their homosexuality, Bradley said. "This silence was very toxic, humiliating and ultimately degrading," Bradley said. As a result, she started her showcase at the bookstore with one rule: If you read at the Lesbian Writers Series, your name was announced on the publicity materials. You couldn't hide in the closet. This was a big deal at a time when people could be fired or attacked for being anything other than heterosexual, Bradley said. For example, she said, in the early 1980s, "You could put elected officials in office that we all knew were gay, but they wouldn't come out and say it."
At the event at the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives, a library affiliated with USC, many attendees credited the Lesbian Writers Series with helping them learn about their sexual identity and shape lesbian consciousness in general. It provided a place to meet other intelligent, questioning women. "I thought, in my young adult life, I was the only lesbian on the planet," said 42-year-old Angela Brinskele, who grew up in Orange County. She said that just before she attended her first writers series, her college had disbanded all its clubs rather than allow a gay club. She couldn't believe that an event could fill a bookstore with lesbians regularly on Saturday nights and speak openly of themes such as gay-bashing, women's desires for other women and changing the oil in a car. "I thought it was a dream," she said.
The accepting atmosphere inspired one woman to read a love poem to her partner, an elected official who has never publicly acknowledged her sexuality, said Stuart Timmons, who was a clerk at A Different Light in the early 1980s. The open nature of the series was part of the magic, he said, allowing hundreds of women to deal with their public and private personas. Timmons, who now serves as ONE's executive director, said he saw the writers series as history in the making. "Simply being in the presence of so many women who were lesbians and writing about their lives was taking the political movement to the second step of creating a cultural record," he said. Timmons, encouraged by the success of the lesbian series, started a gay male writers series.
The Lesbian Writers Series appeared at a critical moment in the definition of the gay and lesbian movement, said Robin Podolsky, a well-known local writer who read in front of an audience for the first time in 1984. "There was all this horror at the death associated with the AIDS crisis," said Podolsky, who now serves as a press deputy for state Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica). "We needed to respond with something positive, something creative, rather than responding with horror."
In addition to its slate of readings, the current series coordinator said, the program also plans to pair emerging lesbian writers with established authors to help the new writers produce a publishable work. "For many years [the Lesbian Writers Series] was absolutely the only place where lesbian-themed authors could safely share their work," Sophia Corleone said. "It many ways, this is still true."
The flagship store at 4014 Santa Monica Blvd of A DIFFERENT LIGHT closed in April 1992, but in the late 80s and 90s the franchise thrived with stores in Silver Lake, West Hollywood, New York City and San Francisco. With coming of on-line bookstores and gay/lesbian sections in mainstream bookstores, A DIFFERENT LIGHT lost a great deal of its customer base. The City of San Francisco tried to maintain the store on Castro Street in the City’s beloved Castro District off Market, but it finally shuttered in 2011.
Ann Bradley had one and only one rule to read on the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES: your name and photo would be on the flier. Bradley had attended numerous readings throughout the 70s and 80s where lesbian writers would never acknowledge their identities. Bradley named the Series the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES to fully celebrate lesbians. Beyond that no restrictions. No closets on the Series.
On July 28, 2022 Bradley participated in a panel discussion on the LESBIAN WRITERS SERIES and CLOTHESPIN FEVER PRESS with Carolyn Weathers and Jenny Wrenn at the ONE ARCHIVES Gallery on Robertson in West Hollywood. The event was part of a Ph.D. project created by British lesbian Sarah-Joy Ford called LOOKING FOR LESBIANS coordinated by ONE ARCHIVES. The event was moderated by Alexis Bard Johnson, Curator at ONE Archives at the USC Libraries
