M3GAN (stylized as MΞGAN, pronounced "Megan") is an upcoming American science fiction horror film directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper and a story by Cooper and James Wan. It stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, and Brian Jordan Alvarez, with Amie Donald as the title character.[1][2][3] It is produced by Jason Blum and James Wan under their Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster Productions banners, respectively, alongside Divide/Conquer.
M3GAN is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States by Universal Pictures on January 6, 2023.[4]
Premise
Gemma (Allison Williams), a brilliant roboticist at a toy company, uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN (short for Model 3 Generative Android), a life-like doll programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her recently orphaned niece Katie when the child's parents died in a car accident, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype, a decision that has horrific consequences when she becomes overprotective and kills everyone in her way.

Release
M3GAN is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on January 6, 2023.[6] It was originally scheduled to be released on January 13, 2023, before being moved up a week in order to avoid competition with House Party and the wide expansion of A Man Called Otto, which were also scheduled for the January 13 release date.[7]
Reception
Pre-release
Following the trailer's release, M3GAN received significant media attention, particularly for a scene where M3GAN starts dancing.[8] This scene became the source of various memes,[9] with M3GAN being referred to as the "yassified" form of Annabelle from the Conjuring Universe film series.[10]
