If there was any chance of him being okay, it ends when he falls off the bed and splits his head open on the floor.

This did not happen in the version of the book I read (US hardback). He just had a heart attack and died. Ellsworth 22:38, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actually, he did split his head on the floor, page 37-38 in the paperback Signet 1993, "The sound of his skull meeting the hardwood floor made her shriek again. It sounded like some enormous egg being cracked against the lip of a stone bowl."
