The 4GB Scam
I have now checked many of these so called Mp4 players with 4GB memory, without exception they all contain less tham 4GB, in most cases they are 1GB or less. Windows XP shows them as being 4GB but you will only be able to load and retrieve much less than this. Try it using videos or high resolution photos.
Vorbis Support
according to | Xiphs Portable Players page, they've tested four of these and found that they all play vorbis files, though they don't advertise that ability.
I think this article is useful and should be kept. I have one of these players and couldn't find much useful information in in English till I found this page.
- I revised much of the article so that it wouldn't be so derivative, and to conform more to the style of Wikipedia. I agree that the article ought to be here, regardless whether the items in question are useless, as stated below, or not. The purpose of an encyclopedia is to provide reference on things that people need information about, and documenting audio-video devices is within the scope of this one. --Aaron Walden 13:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
These things are useless.
I bought the smaller, more slimlined one the other day and am struggling to get any good use out of it. The manual, roughly translated from mandarin, is extremely difficult to understant e."When enter FM play mode, it need resume current present channel, and play". It doesn't explain any application in depth, "the player can play movies. the player is good also playing music." etc, etc". And while it seems like i'm taking a rightious swipe at the good-for-nothing Apple rip-offs, tommorow is the day that i'll be going back and retaking some value out of my $150.
- I agree, I got one of these from someone at work for $80, and it was terrible. No playlists, it plays songs in the order that they are loaded onto the flash drive. You cannot browse like you can on an ipod, you are restricted to only going forward or back. During playback, the screen shows all sorts of useless stuff in microscopic letters. Also, no clickwheel ---- Conanford 04:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Good Player, but unsificient detail given in manual about what compression within the codecs used on my device
I recently picked up one of these Chinese 'MP4' players, (which don't play mp4's)at a computer fair (in England), for £50, it plays MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, WMV, ASF, WAV, and AMV files (however it may play more as in the manual it doesn't say it plays AMV files, yet it came with some free AMV files on it). However I'm having trouble with converting (Video) files to play on it (audio are fine), the device came with a cd, which contains an AMV convertor (and other things). It does convert AMV files, but unfortunatly when it does this it does them upsidedown and as it hasn't got any advanced setup features on the program I just used another video aditing piece of software to first put my video upside down, before I put it through this convertor (so I ended up with a file I could play the right way round on my player). Also I don't know what type of compression within the codecs my 'MP4' player has, and as ult it won't play any of my video's in WMV, or ASF format.
Does anybody know about an AMV convertor which works? (properly) or what type of video compression (within the codecs) these players use?
Thanks

Tips to help make your player last
This article contains instructions, advice, or how-to content. |
Safely disconnect the player from the computer, use Windows "safely remove hardware tool" located in the system tray to disconnect the player from the computer. Do not just remove the player from the USB cable when connected to the computer as this can damage the player.
One can also safely disconnect the player from the computer by pressing 'menu' on the player, it will switch from the screen showing a small mp4 player connected to a computer to the normal menu screen of the player. One will also get a notification on the computer that the player has been disconnected from the computer.
It is often advised that one purchase a protective cover for the player, otherwise, try to carry it in a cloth case, this will help prevent scratches from forming on the screen.
If the buttons become sticky or less responsive over time, open the player and use a cotton swab to clean the inside of the players. Lint and dirt can build up under the buttons over time.
It is not advisable to try to 'upgrade' firmware, as more often than not, it will damage the player.
Problem Deleting Corrupted Files
If a player has a corrupted file and one is not able to delete that file then please see the following steps:
1:run cmd in run dialog box. 2:type chkdsk /r drive name 3:it will ask whether to covert lost chains into files, type y (yes).now it will scan your player 4:goto folder option in control panel.enable show hidden & system file and click on show operating system file too. 5:Delete file or folder named "Foundxx" from your player. Now your corrupted file are deleted.
I'm definitely gonna' get flamed
I should have discussed this with some people first, but I'm probably gonna get flamed for modifying huge portions of the article, I may or may not have creased out the grammar problems, in addition, I may have caused more problems than may have fixed. Reeves 22:18, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Okay, added some tags because this article needs work anyways... Reeves 20:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Okay, added some MORE tags again, added "weasel words" tag 'cause I think this article uses too many opinions in the wording like: "some people..." "most of them are..." "generally they..." and etc. Sans Nom Reeves 23:41, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- Forgot to mention... the phrase: "it can..." and another phrase: "it has the ability to..." Damn this articles so general...
