Merge proposal

  • oppose merge -- different topics (for me). Rapport has both a general meaning, and also a series of views, and associations in NLP. Its important that people looking up rapport in general, are not pointed to a substantially-NLP article, since this would misrepresent rapport. On the other hand, people who want to read NLP's methods related to rapport should not be limited to a minority view of a larger article. FT2 (Talk) 14:11, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose merge Yeah, me too. They do have their differences, though of course they should have references to each other. Mathmo Talk 22:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV is extremely NLP-centric

THe article gives the impression, that rapport is a term only within NLP lingo. It does not even include the wikidictionary definition, but goes straight on to NLP stuff like mirroring and what NLP guy talked the most about it.

Maybe the NLP definition has a place in the article, that is another matter. But the article should certainly not present the NLP understanding as the neutral point of view.

Webster: "relation; especially : relation marked by harmony, conformity, accord, or affinity" Article: "Rapport is one of the most important features or characteristics of unconscious communication"

I second the not NPOV PuercoPop (talk) 07:15, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Often the way to resolve this is just to edit and seek feedback. I have now updated the introduction to the page to set it in common terms, however it is still relevant go on to ways that rapport can be achieved. I will remove the POV tag tomorrow, unless someone gets back to say that is has not been resolved satisfactorily. Greyskinnedboy  Talk  01:02, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jung's Contributions

Jung had several things to say about rapport, especially in a clinical setting.

Also, there is some preliminary evidence that Socionics' 7th function may be the origin of rapport. This function is believed to "limit" or exclude information it does not agree with. People who possess the same ranges of limited information would naturally see the world similarly, because they see themselves in similar situations.

Definition

it would be great to find a definition of the term, others we do not know what we are talking about —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.77.41.7 (talk) 17:52, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link on the right-hand side to the Wiktionary entry should suffice, per WP:DICT. I don't think that the inline definition that is currently at the bottom belongs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Banazir (talkcontribs) 22:37, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, Wikipedia is not a dictionary, but it is very strange to start an article without first explaining what we are talking about. Rapport definitely needs a definition. Lova Falk talk 17:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definition at the Top

The definition at the top of the article talking about being "in sync" and "on the same wavelength" seems a bit too slangy and informal, although maybe this helps people understand the definition better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tanthanyes (talkcontribs) 01:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology People

Etymology of rapport needed... Its not pronounced with a 't', why is there a 't' at the end? 217.131.183.218 (talk) 17:15, 9 October 2009 (UTC)School sucks[reply]

Rapport as a sales technique

Rapport is arguably the most tactic salespeople use to turn customers into buyers. There's an exact science to it that should be covered in this article; which should not be merged with mirroring as it is a separate concept altogether. DesertPhox (talk) 21:51, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added section called "Building Rapport" I tried to keep the tone as non how-to as possible but it should still be checked DesertPhox (talk) 01:04, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rapport

Rapport.. you and your boyfriend or girlfriend getting together! Thats what it means. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moysowet (talkcontribs) 17:48, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Rapport congruency

Not enough substance for stand-alone article. RES2773 (talk) 18:49, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I'm going to AfD it because it's unsourced, and we can't merge unsourced material because it doesn't improve the article. I'm not even seeing any hits for it being used as a business term other than in WP mirrors. MSJapan (talk) 06:36, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What about autistic rapport?

A number of "spectrum" writers have discussed this poorly-understood phenomenon: When two people on the autistic spectrum meet, they sometimes find that they enter rapport involuntarily and (AIUI) more-or-less immediately. This is not at all universal, but when it happens for any given pair, it seems to be consistent thereafter. Most of the people I've seen writing about it seem to think that it's conditional on the two having a matching subtype of autism, but I don't know of any actual test of the question, and autistic subtypes are themselves poorly understood. Despite being (AFAIK) not well studied, autistic rapport is a fairly "spectacular" phenomenon that's well-known within the "spectrum" community, and it might be worth a section here. --Dave Harmon (talk) 12:20, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lead change

Does anyone want to support this [1] lead change? A nearly identical version was first undone by user:Qzd , and this version has now been undone twice by me. It's too wordy, it's grammatically incorrect, and it is simply not an improvement on what we have. Meters (talk) 20:33, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
