A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he had served in the Cabinet as Minister for Defence and Minister for Communications and Information and was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 1980s and 1990s.

A chemist by profession, Yeo is an alumnus of the University of Singapore (now the National University of Singapore). He later graduated with a PhD from the University of Cambridge.[1] He was also a research fellow of Christ's College, Cambridge between 1970 and 1973.

Since retiring from politics, Yeo has been serving as Executive Chairman of the Singapore Technologies Group and Chairman of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA). He has also published several books under the pen name "Adrian Yeo".[2]
