JHHS also is one of the few schools in the state that specifically caters to students with special needs. The hard hearing population at JHHS is one of the largest in the area and well noted. Hersey boasts a strong service component to their students education. Its Service Over Self Club originated in 1969 as a vision of Wil Kozlowski. Since then, thousands of students have realized that philanthropy is important in todays society. Over 90% of graduating seniors participate in at least one SOS activity in their high school career.
