Considering retirement
This section is pinned and will not be automatically archived. |
Hello all. I'm sure some of you will have noticed that I have placed {{considering retirement}} on my talk page. I have my reasons for this, tho it is nothing that necessarily involves me. Technically it involves everyone editing or viewing Wikipedia. Due to some circumstances regarding the higher-higher-ups (as in beyond admins) I'm not sure if I want to remain an editor on Wikipedia. If I have known you on Wikipedia for a while and you really wish to know more details then let me know here and I will send you an email with the details. I do not wish the details to be shared publicly here on Wikipedia or on the Wikipedia Discord server, or anywhere else involving Wikipedia and the WMF (excluding other Wiki's running on the mediawiki software that are otherwise not associated with the WMF). As the template says, nothing is set in stone at the moment, though it is something I am considering. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:15, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- That seems a shame. As long as you have been enjoying editing here and as log as you have been abiding by the rules I see no reason for you to allow other people to control your behaviour. Since I have not seen any divergence from the rules it must be that you are not quite enjoying yourself. By all means take a wiki break. I took one for several years. It was meant to be for a few months but I had burned out and lost the fun. For me, the fun is back. I hope it returns for you, too.
- I feel a sense of loss, since we have just met, but your staying because I ask would be your allowing me to control you. So stay, for as long as you want, and return when you want if you leave. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:39, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- I would love for other people to not control my behavior, however I don't really have a choice. If you'd like I will email you more details as said are not something I want public here on Wikipedia. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:41, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- If you wish to send it I will read it. It is very rare that I respond by email. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:56, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- I understand the points you make in your email. I know others have felt those things before. What they have found is that it generally all comes good in the end.
- Out of deference to you and in accordance with the rules, I may not reveal, even by my answers, any of the actual points in your email 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:19, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. I may choose to reveal them in the future. But for now they remain private via email. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:20, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- If I have any advice for you, it is to choose to ignore the things you emailed me about, simply because nor you nor I can affect them. If building the encyclopaedia is enough fun then the rest of whatever it is you sent me can safely be ignored. This is why I concentrate on building the encyclopaedia by reviewing by writing, be improving, by offering article for deletion, etc etc. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 23:40, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- That's not something that's easy to do considering how much it can affect me. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 23:43, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- I hope you can stay Blaze Wolf. You were the one of the first editors I interacted with at the Teahouse, and you gave me a lift when I was a struggling newbie who didn't even know how to upload an image. If you would like to talk about something, feel free to email or DM me on Discord ‡ The Night Watch ω (talk) 01:12, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Blaze Wolf! I saw the considering retirement above, and though I would understand, I hope you get to a place where you can choose to stay. You're a valuable editor on this project and you've been a big help to me, as well as others! Like I said, I would totally understand, but I sincerely hope to see you stay. - I know that retirement may seem like a bad thing, Blaze Wolf, but it may mean a chance to look back at history. Speaking of, the Reverie Battles (that were archived in the Legends: Arceus wiki) were part of the Daybreak update, so I had to include them. - (12546a) 11:13, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Signature
Uhh I found out I could get a signature made here? If you can please do InfernaIBaze (talk) 04:16, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- @InfernaIBaze: Hello Infernal! I can definitely make a signature for you. What do you want it to look like? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:11, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hmmm, good question. Maybe a black and red or a little techy blue would be nice, Thanks. InfernaIBaze (talk) 01:01, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Either one works InfernaIBaze (talk) 01:01, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- @InfernaIBaze: Alright. Any specific shape or do you want it similar to mine? Do you want a gradient of red to techy blue (if I can figure that out which will probably just be stealing someone else's signature with a gradient to reference). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:09, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Whatever you think is best works InfernaIBaze (talk) 03:12, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- @InfernaIBaze: I'm not really all that creative so I have a hard time coming up with stuff on the fly. What specific shape do you want it or do you want it to look similar to mine? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:13, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Similar to yours works (I’m not creative either) InfernaIBaze (talk) 03:15, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- @InfernaIBaze: Hey! So in regards to the link to your talk, is there anything you want underneath the link or is it fine as is? If so would you like the parentheses removed and any custom formatting around the link? Do note that I am limited to 255 characters total so it has to fit within that limit. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:34, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Nope it’s fine like this. Sorry I haven’t been able to reply. InfernaIBaze (talk) 02:37, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Nah it's alright. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:27, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Also, I’m probably gonna sound really dumb staying this but when will the signature be made? (Assuming it’s not already made) InfernaIBaze (talk) 04:29, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- And another thing (unrelated to the signature) is that discord user box outline how did you get it? InfernaIBaze (talk) 04:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Answer to your first question: Should be done sometime today assuming I'm not lazy. Answer to your second question: It's a template. Specifically User:Levi_OP/Discord Profile. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:09, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the answer, I’ll be looking forward to the signature! InfernaIBaze (talk) 01:51, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

In response to the Japanese test, all I can understand is the first part which is "Konnichiha" or "hello. Other than that I have no clue what the rest says. I'm still at a very basic level lol. Also, the way I found the cool template on my talk page was that I think I remember seeing it on someone else's userpage before it was a template and the guy (who I think is now inactive) made it into a template since I wanted it on my userpage as well. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 02:36, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oh okay… I was hoping for some magic website that gave you the greatest templates or whatever. No big deal tho.(this is a joke) The full translation is, Hello, my name is Noah. Simple InfernaIBaze (talk) 02:52, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for removing that intrusive article from the Help Desk. I was tempted to, but it seemed a bit extreme. But I see that Kingofthearmy has now been blocked as a sockpuppet anyway. ColinFine (talk) 16:16, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- No problem! They didn't have a question before or after the article, they simply just copy pasted the article to the help desk so there was no point in just hatting it as they weren't asking a question. 17:52, 19 December 2022 (UTC) ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:52, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Regarding the Rejection of profile of Rehnuma Mostafa.
Hi, Bro How are you, this is Rihabnahmed2020 from Bangladesh.I am a new user.I hope you will understand my lackings.I will try to improve my referencing capability day by day.Hopefully you will help me to publish my first page, though most of he references from Bangla newspaper ,I think you will understand everything by translation. All those information are collected from National news paper of Bangladesh.. Thanks, brother for your effort. RihanAhmed2020 (talk) 16:25, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- I have not rejected it yet. However if you continue to resubmit the article without attempting to address the concerns listed in the decline reasons (declining means you can resubmit it, rejecting means resubmission is not an option) then it will most likely be rejected. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:54, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Error in url
Hi.
I saw that it reverted my edit to Bluetooth.
I am contacting you as a way of demonstrating good faith.
I'm translating the article to the Portuguese-speaking Wikipedia, and I open all the links to use as a source, and it occurred to me that when I opened the file link I moved, the link returned an error message.
When I open the page, the following message appears in the place where the theme should be:
"We're sorry, but we were unable to service your request. You may wish to choose from the links below for information about Microsoft products and services."
This by accessing that link already present in the article.
Now with what I put, the material that I believe is the right one that had to appear appears.
I take the opportunity to apologize for my English, I'm using Google Translate to send this message here, as I speak Portuguese, and also apologies for the large text. Elder N (talk) 17:20, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Elder N: Hello Elder! Is it not automatically sending you to the archive? The link is marked as dead so it should automatically send you there. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:51, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- The file used in the article is dated January 1, 2008, but when accessed it sends it to December 28, 2008.
- The file I had inserted puts it on June 21, 2004.
- In fact the original link is dead, but luckily we have the file link that we should use to verify, and this is where the problem lies, the file link itself doesn't open where it should. Elder N (talk) 17:57, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Elder N: It appears you may have a translation error. It seems that what you're referring to as a file is actually just the archive URL. Also, to change the archive URL instead of changing the link in the "|url=" parameter you need to change the link in the "|archive-url=" parameter. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:00, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Good friend, I took another look at my edit and reversal made by you.
- And really that's right, there was an error on my part, I changed the |url= instead of the |archive-url=.
- And anyway, both don't open in the right place anyway.
- I must have mixed up the links when I moved that part, because the |url= is usually to have the original link, and in this article there is a file in its place. Elder N (talk) 18:15, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Elder N: It's alright, it can get a bit confusing when looking at it (also once again "file" isn't the right word here, it's "archive URL"). I'll take a look at it when I get home and see if it might be a permanent dead link if the archives don't work. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Right friend.
- Thank you for now, and I also thank you for the nomenclature correction, I have the habit of saying only file when referring to the link to archive URL.
- From what I tested from URL to file, the oldest one I got was the one from June 21, 2004, I believe there are others that work, it was just my choice to put an older one, now to avoid having problems with not opening. Elder N (talk) 18:53, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Makes sense. Really it would be best to go with the one closest to the access date to ensure the version is the one that's intended. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:54, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!
The Barnstar of Diligence | |
Thank you very much for sticking with it and helping me out there.
Please reconsider 'retirement' too... I would be devastated if you retired! Please don't! :) — Moops ⋠T⋡ 18:48, 19 December 2022 (UTC) |
- I really don't like how that template words things. I'm no longer "strongly" considering retirement, but I have no choice to change the wording. I would make the "strongly" an optional parameter but I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet... maybe looking at that userbox's coding would give me the answer since the number is optional. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:51, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Tech News: 2022-51
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Tech News
- Because of the holidays the next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 9 January 2023.
Recent changes
- On a user's contributions page, you can filter it for edits with a tag like 'reverted'. Now, you can also filter for all edits that are not tagged like that. This was part of a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [1]
- A new function has been used for gadget developers to add content underneath the title on article pages. This is considered a stable API that should work across all skins. Documentation is available. [2]
- One of our test wikis is now being served from a new infrastructure powered by Kubernetes (read more). More Wikis will switch to this new infrastructure in early 2023. Please test and let us know of any issues. [3]
Problems
- Last week, all wikis had no edit access for 9 minutes. This was caused by a database problem. [4]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
- The word "Reply" is very short in some languages, such as Arabic ("ردّ"). This makes the Discussion tools button on talk pages difficult to use. An arrow icon will be added to those languages. This will only be visible to editors who have the Beta Feature turned on. [5] [6]
Future changes
- Edits can be automatically "tagged" by the system software or the Edit filter configuration system. Those tags link to a help page about the tags. Soon they will also link to Recent Changes to let you see other edits tagged this way. This was a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [7]
- The Trust & Safety tools team have shared new plans for building the Private Incident Reporting System. The system will make it easier for editors to ask for help if they are harassed or abused.
- Realtime Preview for Wikitext is coming out of beta as an enabled feature for every user of the 2010 Wikitext editor in the week of January 9, 2023. It will be available to use via the toolbar in the 2010 Wikitext editor. The feature was the 4th most popular wish of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.
Events
- You can now register for the Wikimedia Hackathon 2023, taking place on May 19–21 in Athens, Greece. You can also apply for a scholarship until January 14th.

About my submission
Hi Blaze Wolf, I am not being paid for this article, as specified, this is a former (past) client of mine and no longer. I am writing this Wikipedia article as a courtesy, after looking for a page and discovering there was none. 75.83.82.221 (talk) 19:12, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hello IP! Would you mind clarifying what submission you are referring to? You have no other edits besides this one. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
about my submission
hi blaze wolf you declined a article Ceno (rapper), said it was a duplicate however. the coverage source was added, as the first draft was declined said it needed better sources. please shed some light on this issue Es87gcwriter (talk) 21:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Es87gcwriter: You should not submit multiple drafts on the same topic. Pick one (preferably Draft:Ceno (rapper)) and submit that. You can resubmit the same draft after a decline (once you address the reasons it was declined), there's no need to create a new page which results in two drafts as we have here. Add {{db-self}} to the top of the draft that you do not want to move forward with in order to request its deletion. ––FormalDude (talk) 21:20, 20 December 2022 (UTC) (talk page watcher)
