Kershaw is an English-language surname deriving from a topographical identifier in the northern dialect of Middle English: kirk meaning "church" and shaw meaning "grove". Places named Kirkshaw include Kirkshaw in the parish of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, and two hamlets in West Yorkshire.
