Request:

In order to improve communication between genealogy interested wikipedians, as well as taking new, important steps towards a creation of a new project site, we need to make communication between the users easier and more effective.

At Mail list on meta is discussed the possibility of creating a genealogy-related Wikimedia email list. In order to request the creation of such a list, we need your voice and your vote.

In order to create a new list, we need to put a request it in Phabricator, and add a link to reasoning/explanation of purpose, and link to community consensus. Therefore we need your vote for this now, so we can request the creation of the mail list.

Read more about this email list at Meta; Wikimedia genealogy project mail list where you can support the creation of the mail list with your vote, in case you haven't done so already.

A demo wiki is up and running!

Dear members of WikiProject Genealogy, this will be the last newsletter for 2017, but maybe the most important one!

You can already now try out the demo for a genealogy wiki at https://tools.wmflabs.org/genealogy/wiki/Main_Page and try out the functions. You will find parts of the 18th Pharao dynasty and other records submitted by the 7 first users, and it would be great if you would add some records.

And with those great news we want to wish you a creative New Year 2018!

I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to do what you did on the Talk page. Can you revisit it? Jack Upland (talk) 06:33, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, meant to remove the whole thing. Cannolis (talk) 07:09, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gulf Cup

Hello. Hello. I wanted to correct the name of this article, but I realized that the article is locked. I noticed that there are many discussions on the discussion page.

Talk:Arabian Gulf Cup

I am not very familiar with the laws, but I know that if it is to be reformed, it should be solved in politics and the outside world. But here another big forgery has occurred. The tournament has been renamed to the Arabian Gulf since 2018. But one of the users has changed the name of all the first 23 courses to Arabian Gulf in an obvious fraud. I spent hours trying to find it. I looked at some of the articles on the Asian continent. The name change is not related to the previous articles.

Gulf Cup of Nations

According to the documents below, please return all the first 23 articles to the correct and previous name. Do this in the main article as well. And it should be noted that from 1970 to 2018 it was held under the name of the Gulf Nations Cup and from 2019 until now under the name of the Arab Gulf.

https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&end=2018-02-03&namespace=all&start=2018-02-03&tagfilter=&target=Hashim-afc&offset=20180203215215

Hashim-afc - An obvious forgery has been done by them. The original name of the first 23 courses should be returned with the same name as held. thank you

for example:

AFC U-19 Championship renamed to AFC U-20 Asian Cup but:

Tournament Names

1959–2006: AFC Youth Championship - 2006 AFC Youth Championship

2008–2020: AFC U-19 Championship - 2008 AFC U-19 Championship

2023–Ongoing: AFC U-20 Asian Cup - 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mexxsa (talkcontribs) 12:19, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Really not understanding what you are requesting. You could bring up your concerns at Talk:Arabian Gulf Cup though I would warn against making claims that another editor is making "obvious forgeries", see WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL. Cannolis (talk) 19:45, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template%3AArabian_Gulf_Cup&diff=815644933&oldid=814576713

Based on the logic and also the name of the articles that I said above, Changing the name of a competition is not retroactive. I have nothing to do with the 2019 and 2023 matches. But as you can see, the first to twenty-third courses were held under the name of the Golf Cup, not the Arabian Gulf. In 2018, the user renamed all old competitions to new ones. Do you agree that this is wrong?

Suppose FIFA changed the name of its competition. Should all old courses be changed to new names? Definitely not. (for example: fifa world cup rename to World Football championship). New articles will be created with the new official name and old articles will remain with the same old name. I can find dozens of similar routines on Wikipedia. I have shown one above about the Asian Youth Championships.

I have a request:

1- Articles from 1970 to 2018 should be returned to their original names. Changing the Arabian Gulf routes to them should also be removed.

1970 Gulf Cup of Nations to 2017 Gulf Cup of Nations

2- Template:Arabian Gulf Cup and Arabian Gulf Cup also be corrected (for 1970-2018).

I have nothing to do with the current name of the tournament. I mean the names that were wrongly manipulated by the user Hashim for articles from 1970 to 2018 due to ethnic prejudices.

Wikipedia rules do not change old names either:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_U-20_World_Cup#Results

1991 FIFA World Youth Championship - 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup : 1977–2005: "FIFA World Youth Championship" 2007–present: "FIFA U-20 World Cup"

All old names remain because no user has changed them to their own favorite names. This should be done here as well.

In official sources, there is no such thing as the Arabian Gulf. But this should be pursued through legal and international law. I just want the articles from 1970 to 2018 to be returned to their original names, which were the Gulf Cup of Nations. Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation was established in May 2016. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mexxsa (talkcontribs) 12:01, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for explaining what you want done. However, this is still something that should be brought up on Talk:Arabian Gulf Cup for other editors to discuss, not here on my talk page where I'm the only one reading it. Something that may support your argument would be reliable sources(also read WP:RS on this as things like the iranpress.com article you linked here are definitely not considered reliable) showing that the English phrase "Gulf Cup of Nations" was being used officially up until 2018. Though looking at the history of the cup, not sure if this would even really help - I can't even see who was arranging the cup prior to the formation of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation in 2016, so not sure who would be authoritative body. Cannolis (talk) 18:26, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Please move this entire discussion section to the article's talk page. I am not familiar with the procedures. Let's see what others have to say. And I can find more resources. But I must say that if the name of this competition was Arabian Gulf from the beginning, its articles would have been written with that name from the beginning. In fact, the user of Hashim should find reliable sources for this transfer without discussion and investigation, that the competitions have been held since 1970 under the name of the Arabian Gulf. With respect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mexxsa (talkcontribs) 16:00, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make a post on Talk:Arabian Gulf Cup feel free to do so but I am not interested in copying this discussion or making a post there on your behalf. If you have concerns about procedures, read WP:TPG and definitely read WP:RS. Would also advise against just copying this discussion there as well, try to collate your argument and sources together better first. Since you claim that the prior name change was done "without discussion", you should also review prior consensus at the move discussion on that talk page. Finally, I would also advise against bringing up this Persian Gulf naming stuff as that has pretty much nothing to do with this, and doing so makes you come off as a crusader against anything named "Arabian Gulf". Source

Hello. I put the reasons and sources in the discussion page of the article. I have nothing more to say. I am waiting for the users who claim the title of the Arabian Gulf to provide their reasons and sources for the matches from 1970 to 2018. If they were unable to do so, I would expect all the articles to be returned to the correct names. And all the sublinks should be removed from the template and the main article. With respect and thanks
