Amason Kingi Jeffah, EGH is the current Speaker of the Senate of Kenya. He is the former governor of Kilifi County and belongs to Kenya Kwanza Alliance. He studied law and graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1998. He served as the first governor of Kilifi County upon being elected in the 2013 elections and was reelected in the 2017 elections. Prior to his term as governor of Kilifi, he served as Minister for Fisheries Development from 2010 to 2013. He also served as Minister for East African Community in the Grand Coalition government. He was duly elected as member of parliament to represent the Magarini Constituency during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election.[1]
He formed his own party, Pamoja African Alliance which later joined UDA, Ford Kenya, ANC and other small parties to form the Kenya Kwanza Alliance which was elected into government in the 2022 Kenyan general election.[2]
Political career
His growing reputation was spotted by the late President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who gave him a Cabinet position in the Grand Coalition Government that was formed after the 2007 post-election violence. [3]
Kingi ran for and won the governorship of Kilifi in 2013, and she was later elected again in 2017. [4]He established the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party in an effort to free the Coast region from ODM's control.[5]
His party, which has three MPs, severed relations with Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja Coalition in the middle of this year and joined William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza, which supported his campaign for Senate Speaker.[6]
