Message for kicks

Haven't got anything specific to say, just thought I'd drop you a line & ask you how your vacations are going. --Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 19:47, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah saw it & was impressed by your work on Nichalp's suggestions. Haven't been contributing much for the past couple of days; had some work in real life (although it did take me some time to realise that I did have a life outside Wikipedia :D) Anyway will be available tommorow (I mean IST of course, so good to interact with Indian wikipedins knowing they are in the same time zone!) & am relatively free, so if you have some extra work to be done on the Ahmedabad article, tell me about it. Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 20:05, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
I live near IIM so will be happy to come. So what is this march about? Against reservation for SC/ST? Will be good to meet a fellow wikipedian. Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 06:36, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Re:Political parties

I think that now everything is clear and there isn't any need for further expansion. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:02, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Miljoshi

I wouldn't put is as "left"; inactive would be the correct word. As you know, we're working on the locator map for Indian cities as soon as the FPC ends. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:07, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Ahmedabad Name

Check the lead now. What do you think? - Aksi_great (talk) 17:34, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello that sounds fine with me. Someone might raise whether or not that should be in lead or history but I am ok with it. Anyways, great work with the article thus far. I should really spend more time on it considering I am amdavadi too . --Blacksun 17:38, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your wishes

Hi Aksi great, it was great knowing you. Thanks for your wishes. I'd still be around but more infrequently. As far as RfA goes, Durin would be willing to review your contribs and nominate you just the way he did in my case, time permitting. So would I, as I had done in the case of nominating Redvers but given the time constraints I am in, it'd probably take around a month by the time I get to it and hence you'd be better off if some one more active can nominate you. --Gurubrahma 17:18, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hi! So you guys also had a anti-resevation march in IIM-A (I learnt from your comment is Srikeit's talk page). In fact, we also had same here on 10th from all the medical colleges.

Ahmedabad is improving greatly. No it's not easy to have an FAC. Especially with Nichalp around!! LoL. He is absolutely superb. Did you see the Kolkata FAC. Thanks to Nichalp, it almost did not have any oppose. In fact, the clause of the tentative oppose also pointed out by Nichalp beforehand (bad organisation of inline references). It was I who did not improve properly!

Best of luck. Bye.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:14, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not admin material

Aksi, people keep telling me that I should be an admin, and I keep saying no. I'm a borderline Aspie and social skills are not my strong point. I'm blunt and direct and I end up in a great many fights. Particularly because I edit in controversial areas and because I, like a fool, wade in where angels fear to tread. I have made too many enemies, my RfA would not pass, and if by some miracle it were to do so, people would be reporting me for abuse of my privileges on a regular basis :)

It's nice of you to say that, however. Since I have at least four editors enraged at me right now, a wee bit of encouragement helps. Zora 13:36, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks Aksi, Yes I am from Ahmedabad, but don't currently live there.. Good job done with the article.. looking forward to collaborating with you in the future. --Rev.bayes 14:28, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Mains

Ideally those links should point to a more detailed article, but I'd say History and geography should be present as a lot can be said of a large city such as Am'ad. PS, I'd uploaded some pics, did you have a look? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:10, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I saw your comment on the talk page of Blacksun. The list of agitations in Ahmedabad. Also discuss 2002 Gujarat violence. In fact I do not know if there were any sorta agitation following the recent Vadodara Dargha incident.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:57, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Ih Ok. that's fine. In that case, I must say, most of those riots you mentioned in Blacksun's page, IMO, do not need to be mentioned in the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Hi Akash,

Thank you for strongly supporting my RFA! Even though it did not succeed I want to heartily thank you for your faith in me & my abilities. If it weren't for you guys I probably would have never been confident enough to consider myself for the position. I will look to keep your confidence in me intact for a long time to come.

Cheers

Earthquake hazard zoning of Indi

Good work on the article, but we still need to have the zone mapped with the magnitudes. We can put up the image as fairuse till we get someone to draw the map for us. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:19, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

page move

If you have a direct source that calls it an "expressway" go ahead. Also, thanks for your support on my RfA. I really appreciate it. Rama's Arrow 14:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes it looks good. Rama's Arrow 14:41, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for looking at it. I am very sorry for disturbing you so much as you may already be nervous about your RfA. My advise to you would be to remain calm and let people 'vote' - whether oppose or support. There are a lot of people who put in their comments looking at the user and some without. Don't try to respond to all oppose comments just as you don't respond to all support ones. I have seen some really imaginitive opposes like 'lack of page moves'. - Aksi_great (talk) 14:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

2000!!

Hey congrats on completing 2000 edits! Enjoy the same icecream you gave me on reaching 1000 edits. It still tastes good; I just sampled it! ;D. Ahmedabad does'nt look far away from FA status at the rate at which you are improving it. Keep up the excellent work!

Cheers

Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 15:57, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Of all the coincidences! I just found out the above post was my 4500th edit!! What an edit!! Congratulating someone else on crossing a edit milestone! Absolutely incredible!! --Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 16:04, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Any work for me?

I see your quite busy with the Ahmedabad article right now. I'm relatively free right now; have you got any odd jobs I can do? Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 10:42, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I think I'll create stubs of the redlinks on the page. *cracking knuckles* Lets get to work! --Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 10:51, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
BTW do you need any pictures of Ahmedabad? Many sections don't have any pictures so do you have any in mind which are required? I can go & click them if you want. --Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 11:01, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

calm down my friend

Hehehehehe...calm down my friend. There is a gross misrepresentation of what adminship means. It is simply a bunch of extra tools, not critical for any user to have. It doesn't mean anything except a few extra ways to serve WP, and requesting those tools mean only a desire to help out in that section of work. Do not grieve, I mean that. Deeptrivia was similarly gross misrepresented - IMO, there is no need for any self-respecting person to put up with it.

I withdrew this nomination simply because I will not allow asatya to prevail. How can I allow people to call me uncivil and unable to deal with criticism after what I've been working on for the last seven months? If I had been unable to recogize my mistakes, would I have bothered to apologize to "Gurubrahma" - a person whose name nor any real detail I know about? I am sure most of those opposers didn't even bother to examine my record.

I am following Mahatma Gandhi - not even a revolution must go on on the basis of asatya. Instead of feeling sad, I will be sleeping much better. Rama's Arrow 20:46, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Hindu politicians

Is there a need for a category for Hindu politicians? Yes. There are categories for Roman Catholic politicians, Jewish-American politicians etc. So I added "Hindu politicians" category too.Babub 02:47, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I have put up my vote to decide (to delete or not) in the deletion page of Category:Hindu politicians.Babub 14:11, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Appreciated, my friend. Though I too can understand, I'm cranky also after staying up all night on call at the hospital (I've been editing wikipedia between seeing patients...) Thanks again -- Samir धर्म 10:19, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for remaining civil

In defense of my block: This individual is the third person to come to my talk page to tell me I was being uncivil. It was perfectly unnecessary and constitutes harassment. 15 minutes is not an excessive block. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 10:31, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

A block is still a block. I was the second person. I told you to be civil because you used the profanity "fuck" for an experience user Samir who was the first one to warn you and also called him a noob. An now you go on to block me. Thanks a lot for being a role-model wikipedian. - Aksi_great (talk) 10:33, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Third. Nathan himself and Samir were the first two. Incidentally, I think I'm going to extend your block, as the shorter one has failed to correct your behavior. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 10:35, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Block

I've blocked you for 15 minutes for harassing me. Consider this a warning. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 10:26, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

No one is harassing you Phil. You're the one cursing everyone off. -- Samir धर्म 10:36, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Samir, let me put this as nicely as I can. I don't tolerate trolls, and I don't tolerate people who stick up for trolls. I apologize if you found my characterization of Nathan's behavior overly blunt, but I'd advise you all the same to stop running around sticking up for trolls. You wouldn't want people to think you were one too. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 10:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I appreciate that, but there's no harassment here. Aksi is a good man also. I feel bad to have caused him to have been blocked. -- Samir धर्म 10:58, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
You don't think he was piling on a bit, or being the slightest bit condescending? For that matter, you were piling on and being a bit condescending yourself. Civility is a two way street, and you get what you pay for. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 11:15, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Honestly, I was very offended by your comments. I don't like bad language under any circumstances even against trolls (I'm a medical specialist and the "troll" is depressed. I thought you were piling on to him...) Your comments to me were very offensive. Aksi got caught in the middle. I probably am a little clueless (I'm probably a lot older and more senile than a young guy like you), but, yeah, I was offended. But I appreciate your experience here and I just want to de-escalate. All's cool, no harm no foul -- Samir धर्म 11:28, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I've unblocked you, Aksi, as I don't find sufficient reasons for you to be blocked. Also, an admin blocking an user for an issue in which (s)he is involved personally is not the best thing to do. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 10:45, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Can someone unblock my IP too - 203.88.128.16. It has remained blocked despite the unblock. Also I put up a notice on Administrators noticeboard which has been removed by Philwelch (to I don't know where.) I am taking a short break now to cool myself. I will be back in another 4 hours. If anything happens till then, I think User:Gurubrahma, User:Sundar or User:Samir (The Scope) can explain it to you. Good evening to all. - Aksi_great (talk) 10:56, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I have unblocked your IP. AnnH 10:58, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I think he moved it to an earlier section. Your IP has also been unblocked by another admin. you can find the discussion on WP:AN. From the discussion there, it is apparent that everyone believes that Phil Welch's actions were inappropriate. Good that you are taking a break. Come back and continue to contribute positively, as you've been doing so far. And I am leaving the honour of setting the next question on WP:PINQ to you. Please do so by 2200 hrs IST. Thanks for staying cool. --Gurubrahma 11:02, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I moved it to a different section that was already discussing the issue. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 11:10, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Incidentally, my 3-hour block on you was not, in fact, unblocked, only the earlier 15 minute block (at least by my reading of the blocklist). Since I have your word that you're going to take 4 hours to cool off, I decided to reverse it myself. Good day. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 11:17, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I apologize for my rashness earlier. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 14:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Email

Your message on my talk page

Hello sir. Please check your wiki-email. I have just sent an email to you. I hope you understand. - Aksi_great

My reply
Hello. I just checked and found none. I shall again see after few moments. --Bhadani 15:30, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Now I got the above mail. And, your mail sent to me when I was sick and confined to bed (during April 2006) was a pleasant surprise! It was on account of your anxiety and care to know about my welfare. I thank you for the same publicly. I responded to the same only two/three days before. My wife was talking of some other mails received during last 24 hours. As suggested by you, deleting the mail ID available with my page history is not a solution, as the miscreants already know the same. Now, I understand the reason behind Essjay and several others not saying much about themselves. I have already told so many facts about me, and I can not reverse the information available about me to the world through wikipedia. Anyway, life is like that - as a true wikipedian, I shall continue to contribute inspite of provocations. --Bhadani 15:30, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I shall continue to do minor edits, and avoid doing the serious work for next few weeks. You shall find me almost daily. --Bhadani 16:18, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

hi aksi!who r u? i think u must have some connection with ahmedabad. well, abd is more dustier and a trifle rural when compared to vadodara. i spent some time at vad & luved the place.still miss it. avjo!!!15:40, 15 May 2006 (UTC) umicron

U r welcome!!

I don't know if you saw WP:AN, there were lot of people supporting you. This is what I like abt WP, we are good at self-policing. Good to see that Phil has apologised to you. I'm concerned abt Bhadani. I cud hv asked him but I don't want to place him under more stress. btw, do ask a question on WP:PINQ, else I'll do so around 2300 IST :) --Gurubrahma 16:25, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Images

Now that the unfortunate incident is behind us lets get to work. I have got some of the images you requested. Select the ones you like & tell me if you want more and/or better versions.

I went to the Sabarmati Riverfront construction site but there is little construction work going on there & its certainly not imageworthy. Hope yopu find these useful.

Cheers

Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 16:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

You are very welcome. For the amount of work you have done to the Ahmedabad article this is the least I could do. If we work together like this Ahmedabad will definitely become an FA. Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 16:53, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Category:Andhra Pradesh cleanup

A suitable category would be Andhra Pradesh politicans. I will try my best to create redirects from the appropriate names. I appreciate your effort in creating these articles. happy editing -- Sumanthk 03:51, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice

I didn't try to threaten or offend anyone. I just wanted him to stay away from the page simply because there were already too many disputes mainly because of me. I only want to update Rani's page. I'm trying to put new information on the page and making the page more appealing and professional. Only if editors could help me reframe my sentences. That would be great! I don't mind them toning it down. I have no problems with Pa7 or Plumcouch. It was only Zora who would completely revert my edits which would frustrate me. Plus, now this new guy was following her lead. I wasn't aware of that policy. No matter what I say, people will keep on editing on the page as their right. I was merely trying to persuade him to stay away just to avoid more complexities. And thanks for your advice. shez_15

Hi

Looks like a lot happened while I was gone. huh? :-) --Andy123 talk 16:25, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

That was a good thing you did. You assumed good faith everywhere. It was highly commendable. One thing however, I'd also like you to point out that - New users are equal to older editors. Everyone is an equal here. Being an administrator does not give rights to play god. And more over, (like you said), we are here to build an encyclopedia, so let's leave trivialities behind.
I am preparing for my NALSAR lawschool examinations which are scheduled on the 21st, this month. Wish me luck. Regards, --Andy123 talk 16:44, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, I am here to make some amendments. Though, we can generally say that everyone is an equal here. WP:NOT a democracy. And yeah, we do have a God around here. ;) --Andy123 talk 17:09, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Images again

Hope you liked the images I got last time. Please tell me how many more are required as I feel the 'Geography & Climate' & 'Demographics' sections need images. I feel the article is now ready for GA nomination.

Cheers

Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 14:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I checked the guidelines & I too feel that GA's can probably not be FA's. Although, I recently promoted a few articles to GA & seen that they have had or are having peer reviews, which can only mean that the contributors are thinking of promoting it to FA. I think we should ask Nichalp, who is probably more experienced in this matter. As for the pics, I think a photo of Vastrapur lake will be good in the 'Demographics' section while I'm still not sure about what to add in the geography section, a satellite image will probably be nice, but I feel it will be a little out of place. BTW I was just reviewing articles like Music of Italy & have seen that the image placement looks good if they alternate each one right & left rather than having all on the right like in the Ahmedabad article. Tell me what you think. Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 15:05, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Re:Ahmedabad and Patel

Hehehe - the second part of your message answered the first question. For some reason, even though I've been around most of the time, I've not been able to do the work I've wanted to do in May - I wanted to help on A'bad's FA drive, which I could not so far. I've happily finished the job on Patel's FA drive, and tomorrow will be the FAC.

I don't think you should discredit your work - the article is 10-times better than where it was, and the first FA one does is always the hardest (it took me more than a month to achieve FA for Political integration of India). I'll be able to give you my input very soon, as I set to work in about 5-6 hours. Rama's Arrow 21:04, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Btw, please have a look at Sardar Patel. I need help from a fresh pair of eyes for copyediting - the only work that remains to be done. Some portions are not well-written (kinda clogged) and the tone of approval is not gone yet. You will be able to detect thing as you will be looking at it fresh. Rama's Arrow 21:11, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Actually that's very good. That's the kind of help I need! Thanks - any such help you can give is appreciated. Its a mammoth article. Rama's Arrow 21:21, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm going offline for 5 hours - I'll return to finish the job completely. Thanks for your help! Rama's Arrow 21:31, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi - I've given my comments in the PR. I see no major issues of any kind, just a few holes to plug before one can call it a comprehensive article. I'm postponing Patel's FAC to Sunday, so we can have more time to patch up outstanding issues. Rama's Arrow 03:37, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Review 2

I've marked up comments in the text. I've reviewed up to Transport, and it needs serious bolstering. Wikify the red links, improve on economy and history. For geography, you can add the Sabarmati river pic I took. Demographics, some graphs migh come in handy. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:06, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your vote on my RfA. Unfortunately there was no consensus reached at 43 support, 18 oppose and 8 neutral. VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:03, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I propose creating a Wikipedia:Notice board for India-related topics/Indian Wikipedians Hall of Fame - with listings of people with highest number of edits, most FAs/FLCs/FPs, most vandalism fighting, most work on backlog, most images contributed, dispute resolution award, etc. This will be better - and will provide for your desire, as Nichalp will dominate most cats. Hindu Politicians

Yes, I did just close that one. Actually anyone can do this, the instructions are near the end. As to your specific question. It is now listed at the end of the article as empty and delete. You can edit the articles and remove the link to this cat. I usually add a comment about this being removed per CfD. When it is empty, just move the entry to the ready to delete heading. Normally there is a bot to do the work but I don't know about that. Also it seems like the editors that normally do the cleanup after the vote have not been around since there are 6 days worth of articles in the backlog. Vegaswikian 07:07, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Girls in Loyola

I saw some of your recent changes in the Xavier's Loyola article.. I think we need to update the facts - since the statement "..it admits girls in the 11th and 12th as well.. (or something to that extent)" is only partially true.. They have started admitting girls in all standards. (gosh!! whew!). I don't know the exact details and I am not in a position to get the exact details, and hence I cannot make those changes.. --Rev.bayes 17:38, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
