The CO2 Coalition is a nonprofit advocacy organization in the United States founded in 2015.[1] The coalition is made up of individual content contributors, researchers, and other interested individuals who hold a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees all with the goal of educating the public on the vital role carbon dioxide plays in our environment.[1]

Many believe the coalition is producing content that is at odds with the 'scientific consensus' on anthropogenic climate change and is spreading misinformation on climate change."[2][3]

Some have viewed it as the successor to the George C. Marshall Institute.[4]

Activities

The CO2 Coalition was one of over 40 organizations to sign a letter dated May 8, 2017, to president Donald Trump thanking him for his campaign promise to withdraw from the Paris Agreement,[5] which Trump announced on June 1, 2017.

The CO2 Coalition has published twelve white papers, six 'climate issues in-depth', eight science policy briefs, coalition member testimonies, and coalition member publications.[6]

As of 2022, the group continues to speak publicly and issue press releases on issues relating to energy production, climate change, and advocating for hydrocarbon based fuels.[7][8]

Funding and membership

The organization has been funded by energy industry firms, individuals, educational trusts, and conservative activists; such as the Mercer Family Foundation, Claude R Lambe Charitable Foundation, Sarah Scaife Foundation, George C Marshall Institute, Thomas W Smith Foundation, Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, Searle Freedom Trust, The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, The Randolph Foundation, Achelis and Bodman Foundation, Charles Koch Institute, Science and Environmental Policy Project and EDG Resources.[9]

The organization's membership includes individuals with PhD, MDs, MSs, and BS in a wide range of disciplines including: Physical Chemistry, Meteorology, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Medicine, Geology, Economics, Nuclear Physics, Computer Science, Biology and other fields of study.[10]
