Need a movement

Will you please move User:Captain Assassin!/sandbox2 to John Wick (film) - I requested for this yesterday. -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 03:17, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

@Captain Assassin!:  Done - GoingBatty (talk) 03:39, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks @GoingBatty:, will you please take a look at User:Captain Assassin!/sandbox4, if it is able to move then move it to The Boy Next Door (film) please. -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 03:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@Captain Assassin!:  Done - GoingBatty (talk) 04:04, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Hello Bgwhite or @GoingBatty:, please move this User:Captain Assassin!/sandbox2 to Get on Up (2014 film) -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 19:06, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@Captain Assassin!: Just curious - are you unable to move pages from your sandbox to article space? GoingBatty (talk) 19:22, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: Hahah no way, I'm completely able to move, I'm creating articles this way for trial. I've been blocked for moving articles and Bgwhite suggested me to do this way. -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 19:27, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Captain Assassin!, sorry, I don't spend much time on Wikipedia over the weekends. You can create new articles. It is just best you don't create them all alone for a few months. It's more like you are on probation. I approved the moving of the article, so if somebody complains, they complaints are against me first. Bgwhite (talk) 20:53, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
GoingBatty, Assassin was blocked for a few months for creating bad redirects and also creating film articles that had not begun filming. I've known Assassin since he first got started and was just a Private Assassin. Bgwhite (talk) 21:30, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@Bgwhite: Thanks for the info. Hope you don't mind me moving the first two pages to article space. I wouldn't want you getting upset and sicking your personal assassin on me (or worse, your wife!) GoingBatty (talk) 23:47, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
GoingBatty, He wouldn't mind you, he's a nice person. But please don't make his wife sick otherwise he'll be beaten by her and he wouldn't even tell :). @Bgwhite, am I allow to create articles now or continue in my sandbox for a few days? -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 02:42, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Would you mind moving this Get on Up (2014 film) to more simple Get on Up (film) - it's better not to mention year in title when other film article don't exist. And please don't merge the filming section into the production section, because it has to be different section, thanks. -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 03:04, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
@Captain Assassin!: Since Get on Up (film) already exists as a redirect to Tate Taylor, I think the best thing to do would be to request that the existing Get on Up (film) be deleted so that Get on Up (2014 film) can be moved to Get on Up (film). You can submit that request at Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting_technical_moves. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 04:32, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: Yeah, I think that'll work but it'll be better if you or Bgwhite put the request for it or ask someone you know to move the article by deleting the existing redirect. -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 14:37, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
@Captain Assassin!: Request submitted. GoingBatty (talk) 15:50, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks GoingBatty :). -- Assassin! No, Captain Assassin! ( T - C - G ) 16:32, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Good-faith edits made by anonymous user on Kitt twins article

Hello Bgwhite,

Someone edited the Harp Twins article with the best intentions, I think, but one of the edits was the insertion of the Internet Movie Database as a reference because the article asks for a citation, and you already made clear that the IMDb cannot be used. Also, a link to their YouTube channel was included to corroborate the total number of views, but it's not quite the correct link. This is the correct link; however, although I do see YouTube links in many articles about songs, I don't know if that particular link (to support the claim about total views) is a good thing or a bad thing. As always, thanks for your generous help... Dontreader (talk) 05:03, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

I saw the IMDb one, but didn't see the YouTube one, so thank you for telling me. I removed the IMDb one. The YouTube one is a little more tricky. I personally don't like saying how many hits a person has gotten, especially with a relatively low number. Cat videos get 100,000,000 views. I think the YouTube ref is fine to support "posted 46 videos on YouTube." Speaking of video, here's one as a thank you. Bgwhite (talk) 06:02, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank God I was never smart enough to become an astronaut! I knew it was a bit dangerous! And you are right about the cat videos. I should buy a cat, make a viral video, and YouTube will pay me enough to never have to work again. You have been extremely helpful tonight, Bgwhite, and I'm very grateful! Dontreader (talk) 06:36, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I fix a broad range of internal links written as external links. Recently I was very busy on the work, so during 2013 the bot did not run very often... but 5500 articles sounds strange. I wish to take a look at this list in order to understand if I missing something, where can I find it? Thanks! -- Basilicofresco (msg) 13:25, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Template:Under construction - signature in the "placedby" parameter

Hi Bgwhite,

I'm a bit confused about your recent edit on methamphetamine, though it's possible I'm just not aware of a particular policy/guideline relevant to maintenance templates in articles. My use of the placedby field in Under construction was just based upon the template documentation, specifically this passage:

Articles tagged with this template are automatically added to the category Category:Pages actively undergoing construction. Add the parameter |placedby= (followed by your login name) to make it easy for people to contact the person who placed the template.

That said, is there a policy or guideline on the use of sigs in templates like this?

In any event, I need the comment parameter to direct people to the appropriate talk page section, should any issues arise during the article restructuring; consequently, I need to put that parameter back in the template.

Regards, Seppi333 (Insert ) 06:25, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

"(followed by your login name)", not signature. Never seen anyone place their login name in the template because the person who placed the template is all over the article's history. I didn't seen them comment. Adding that back in is fine. Bgwhite (talk) 06:33, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Ah, good point. It's not really necessary given that I'm already linking to the discussion section on the talkpage with the comment parameter, so I'll just leave it out. Regards, Seppi333 (Insert ) 06:57, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Question about St Augustine's Abbey

I intended to expand St Augustine's Abbey and add inline citations, but I found word-for-word material identical to web sites without citation. That along with gaps in information and dearth of inline citations led me to draft a major revision at User:Vejlefjord/St. Aug's Abbey (Draft), keeping virtually all the cited material in St Augustine's Abbey. The draft has been edited by User:Moonraker and I think it’s ready to become the main article. The simplest way would be to replace the present article with the draft in one edit. Would that be permissible? Please advise me the proper way to proceed. Vejlefjord (talk) 22:33, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Vejlefjord, I had someone else move it. That is a more complicated move and I always mess it up. Bgwhite (talk) 05:32, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Recent edits to various Rugby Union clubs

Recent edits to various Rugby Union clubs articles are not working correctly e.g. Otley R.U.F.C., Northampton Saints, Edinburgh Rugby. The bot is trying to change the url parameter in the template:Infobox rugby team and breaking the infobox, for example: [12] Hamish59 (talk) 09:49, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Hamish59, thank you for telling me. I think I've fixed it. I made an edit to Otley R.U.F.C. and it appears ok. Now off to see what other articles it broke. Bgwhite (talk) 18:58, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help, Bgwhite. I think I have caught the most recent ones (articles I am watching, and by looking at last couple of thousand edits by the bot), but I have no idea what I may have missed. Hamish59 (talk) 19:05, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Hamish59, when I screw up, I reallly screw up. My wife says I'm a savant when it comes to this. I've found a few more, but I've only searched one day. Most are Rugby articles. A slightly delayed reaction

Hehe, I just noticed this. Very funny!

BTW, have you watched the final season of Breaking Bad yet? If not, it'll be a competition to see whether you or Obama finishes it first. I've already seen the entire series a second time. This is the only dramatic (non-sci-fi) show that I've ever wanted to see more than once, and I'll probably watch the whole thing again. As a testament to its quality, I'll point out that I detest violence, and I'll often refuse to watch a movie or TV show which depicts it. So it's amazing that one of the most violent shows I've ever seen is also one of my favorite shows of all time. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 23:39, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Mandarax It is always a pleasure to give you and receive from you a hard time. Yes, I have watched all of Breaking Bad. My only complaint was that they should have ended it a tad earlier... Walt stuck in New Hampshire, all alone with his money. Jesse stuck as a lab monkey and Skylar destitute. But then again, the last episode is one of the best last episodes of any TV series. They did film an alternative ending that is on the DVD. This is the only video I could find of it. What's different about the violence in Breaking Bad is there are usually consequences from committing the violence. Also, the violence usually is there for the story and not for violence sake. I've been rewatching The West Wing on Netflix. My wife never saw it. The show it in my top 10 of all time and I've really enjoyed watching it again. I'll watch Breaking bad again in a few years. Watched Cloud Atlas again today. I love that film. Bgwhite (talk) 07:25, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Ah, glad to hear you've seen all of BB. (So you were able to figure out what I was talking about regarding slavery a few months ago.) I had heard about the alternative ending, but hadn't seen it yet, so thanks for the link. Some time I'll have to catch the webisodes, which I also haven't seen yet. It really helps to see the whole series again; for example, you can view the many teasery, foreshadowing segments which start so many episodes in a new light, knowing what's to come. And there are so many details which I'd forgotten or missed. For example, I had thought that Walt's involvement in Jane's death was completely passive, merely watching her die but doing nothing to directly or indirectly cause it. However, upon seeing it again, I saw Jane tell Jesse of the importance of sleeping on one's side so one doesn't choke in case one vomits; then I saw that Walt had accidentally rolled her from her side to her back. And the first time around, I had been a little confused about why Jesse turned as he was waiting to assume his new identity. Since this was a crucial story point, I was glad to refresh and fill in the details about the switched cigarette and Brock's poisoning when I saw it the second time.

Yes, The West Wing was very good, but not something I'd really want to see again. Another great show from the same team was Sports Night. And I'll mention one more show, which is the only other one I can think of that I could almost, possibly want to see again: Picket Fences. Unfortunately, according to its article, only the first season is available on DVD, and the remaining three are unlikely to ever become available. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 08:54, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Mandarax, I loved Picket Fences, especially Douglas Waumbaugh. See video for remembrance laughs. My mom and I still have an inside joke over the elephant episode. Lets hope Netflix comes to the rescue. Bgwhite (talk) 09:12, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes, Douglas was quite a character, and quite a lawyer. On the other side of the bench... there are very few truly memorable moments from awards shows, but all of these years later, I still remember the touching and heartfelt acceptance speech when Ray Walston won an Emmy for his Picket Fences performance as the Judge (I believe it was for the first of two). BG19bot made an incorrect edit in Political positions of Dianne Feinstein

BG19bot made an incorrect edit in Political positions of Dianne Feinstein. See this edit. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:29, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Jonesey95, bot worked fine. Article was in error as lines are not to start with an equal sign. It was human error. I didn't catch it was a web address and fix it before sending the bot on its merry way. Bgwhite (talk) 06:02, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Where does "lines are not to start with an equal sign" come from? I see guidance in Help:Section, but the text in question was inside a citation template. The article was rendering fine before the bot edited. It was broken after the bot edited. The bot should check to see whether the offending text is contained within a citation template or other template before editing. I suspect that having an "=" character at the beginning of a line within a template will render just fine almost every time, and the bot should not touch it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:26, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Egads, you on the offensive once again. One day you will actually ask a question rather than accuse and assume.
Again, it was human error. It was not a bot error, actually read what I wrote above.
Yes, it was rendering just fine. Here's the problem, people love putting stuff on the same line as a headline, just after the last equal sign. This does not render. People love not leave the last equals sign in a header. This will not render. People love starting a line with an equal sign and end with an equal sign, but do not mean to have it as a header. This again renders wrong. There are templates in which headlines do show up, so you have to check templates. How do you find the bad from the good? Part of it comes down to human beings. As I said above, I didn't catch it was a web address. I check manually before sending the bot. I then correct them so they don't show up in the listing again. Bgwhite (talk) 07:09, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
I did ask a question, and it wasn't answered. In any event, I was just trying to let you know that your bot made an edit to an article that was rendering fine; that edit resulted in an article with an error in it. Some bot editors are happy to know when their bots cause problems like this so that they can cleverly reprogram the bot to avoid doing so in the future. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:33, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Bot's making spelling errors

All of BG19bot's latest contributions as of when I write this, including this one, have a simple spelling mistake: offf, not off. Nyttend (talk) 01:18, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Bgwhite, spelling error is in edit summary not in body text. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:02, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Yea, I know. It did scare me half to death. I initially thought I'd checked the "regex typo fixing" button and there would be problems in 7,000 articles already done in this run. If one wants to induce a panic initiated heart attack, that evil Nyttend just about succeeded. Nyttend can never talk to my wife or she will have found a way to caching in my life insurance policy while making it look like natural causes. Bgwhite (talk) 07:16, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Sorry about that; if I'd been trying to induce panic, I would have conveniently "forgotten" to include a diff, so you couldn't simply click a link and see what I was talking about. Nyttend (talk) 12:54, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Nyttend, no apology necessary. The "panic" was just viewing the message. Only after looking at the diff did I realize the true problem. When my brain is actually working, it loves playing tricks on me. Bgwhite (talk) 18:36, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Bot attempted to fix section header but produced different version of same problem

Hi, with this edit, the bot attempted to fix an imbalance of equals in a section heading (=Services==) but afterwards there was still an imbalance (==Services===), but one level deeper. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:28, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Redrose64 The bot actually fixed the problem it came to do, changing the "Services" header from a level 1 to a level 2. Bot usually doesn't attempt to fix imbalances. In the majority of cases, the bot isn't smart enough to know if the amount of equal signs on left or right side is correct. Bgwhite (talk) 20:11, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Leszek Zadlo - why "Cannot use wikipedia as a ref "

in Leszek Zadlo - why "Cannot use wikipedia as a ref"?

I thougt that references to de-wiki - eg: Johannes Faber

were a good method of identifying people not included in en-wiki,

If this is not allowed, then how can I make them not ambigous and easily identifable? Jaceknow (talk) 05:17, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Jaceknow, this brings back memories of when when I was newbie and asked why Wikipedia can't be used as a ref. You don't need to go the ref route... just simplify what you are currently doing. Do Johannes Faber (:de:Johannes Faber) in the article and leave off the ref part. This does bring up an age old question. Is it better to have an interwiki link to a foreign language or leave it red? Bgwhite (talk) 06:34, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
@Jaceknow: Another option is to use to generate Johannes Faber [de] if you want. GoingBatty (talk) 23:28, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Visual problems

I'm getting a visual problem from last night only when I'm logged-in. I checked it by logging-out and it is good then.

The problem is when I'm logged-in, I'm getting shrunk pages size in width, like in half size. Fonts are bold and large enough. But when I logged-out it come to its original size. Now this page is also shrunk to half size but only until I'm logged-in. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 04:02, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

You can see it here, another user mentioned it too. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 03:08, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Now, by unchecking "Near this page" at Beta features preferences has solved this template problem, thanks. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 04:08, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Defaultsort of surnames starting Ó

Hello! the Defaultsort for Irish names of form "Abc Ó Def" (or "Abc Ó dEf") should be "Odef, Abc" just as for "Abc O'Def". This is not a double surname (see Irish name). Compare these: Special:PrefixIndex/Seán Ó . I dunno if your recent edit to Séamus Ó hEocha was user error or script error; in the latter case what is the appropriate talk page to flag this? Somewhere under Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia? jnestorius(talk) 15:07, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Jnestorius, sorry, but you are wrong. Nowhere in Irish name does it say anything about sorting. You are confusing the Gaelic vs anglicized forms. Séamus Ó hEocha is the Gaelic form of the name where the space is maintained in the sort value. The anglicized form is O'hEocha, which OhEocha is the sort value.
Ó is a prefix or particle. A prefix or particle is sorted by the person's country of origin. Former South African President F. W. de Klerk has . If he were born in the Netherlands, it would be In Ireland's case, all prefixes or particles are to be part of the sort value if there is a space. Bgwhite (talk) 01:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
"A prefix or particle is sorted by the person's country of origin." Indeed. I have before me an Irish phone book. All the Ó Def surnames are interleaved with the O'Def surnames and Odef surnames. That is the Irish convention. If it were as you have it, then Ó hEocha would come before Oakley and O'Brien. It doesn't in the phone book, it doesn't in the the Cambridge Dictionary of Irish Biography, and it shouldn't in Wikipedia. jnestorius(talk) 10:20, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
 • The Cambridge Dictionary of Irish Biography does *not* sort as you say. Look at their new biographies on their own website. Under December 2012 we have:
Ó Flathartaigh, Mairtín (1912-2005), civil servant and Irish-language scholar
O'Brien, Des (1919-2005), rugby player and business executive
O'Brien, Mary Lucy (1923-2006), missionary sister and doctor in Africa
Notice how Ó Flathartaigh is first. That is because "O Flat" comes before "OBrien" in the index due to the space. Same thing happens under June 2012 and December 2011. Same goes for the Mac prefix. The link you gave is for a list of abbreviations and not an index of names, two different things. Also, don't look at a web page which was generated on-the-fly from a database. Sorting depends on what the default collation the webmasters set up (Mysql and its variants default to Swedish). You have to at look a printed or non-database generated web pages.

I think you must have skipped straight to the end of the PDF I linked to. Please look again at pages x and xv. I will concede that the webpage you link to follows "your" format; but as you yourself appear to accept, the printed word is more carefully edited than something tossed off for a website, and if you look at Volume 7 of the print edition, you will see it follows "my" format. (Examples: pp.525-8 O'Hanrahan, Ó hAodha, O'Hara; pp644-9 O'Lehane, Ó Liatháin, Olley, Olliffe, Ó Lochlainn, O'Loghlen.) I don't see anything in your two references that contradicts that practice: both address the question of whether to include the prefix but not whether to include the space. Pick up any book dealing with 20th-century Irish history and look at its index: assuming there are any Ó names listed, they will be intermingled with the O' names and other o- words, not preceding them. jnestorius(talk) 21:31, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Jnestorius, My reference cleary states on page 108 to sort with the space. They would say to leave space out if not to sort that way.
So you have one English book, but its website does it two ways.
My sources are the Library of University Cambridge of Dublin, National Library of Ireland, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions and every professional society for indexing. I did find other printed books, such as The concise Oxford companion to Irish literature that also follows the same pattern, plus the National Archives of Ireland.
You have two choices. 1) Accept all my evidence vs your one book. 2) Take the discussion to Wikipedia talk:Categorization of people. Bgwhite (talk) 22:07, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Right you are: Wikipedia talk:Categorization of people#Defaultsort of Irish surnames starting Ó jnestorius(talk) 13:12, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Bgwhite, of the three sources you have citedlinked, the ifla document deals with names in the Irish language only, therefore names like O'Neill and Otway simply do not occur. It simply says that "Ó Briain" should be entered under O and not under B. The UCD (= University College, Dublin) catalogue does not have a stated or a single rule: "O'Beirne, Brendan" has a space inserted, so that he becomes "O' Beirne, Brendan", yet O (apostrophe) (space) is still catalogued with O (space), which does not follow the procedure that your interpretaion suggests it should. On p. 71 of that catalogue "Odom, Jerome D." comes between "O'Doherty, William J." and "O'Domhnail, Risteard" (which is itself an incorrect spelling since it is the Irish version and therefore should be Ó Domhnail). The National Library of Ireland likewise puts "O Neill, Anthony M." alongside "Ó Néill, Aodh" by the simple expedient of leaving out the apostrophe. So I'm afraid your sources strengthen, rather than disprove, Jnestorius's argument. Scolaire (talk) 18:45, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Tekken: A Man Called X

Hello Sports, please take a look at User:Captain Assassin!/sandbox2 and move it to Tekken: A Man Called X - Thanks. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 15:02, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Assassin, I think we should hold off on moving this one. Your source says, "Filing has reportedly begun". Besides not knowing how to spell "filming", it is very dubious reference. "Reportedly" isn't a good word that says filming has definitely began. It is on a gaming, not movie site. The original site used is also very shaky. I'd say find a better reference first. Bgwhite (talk) 09:08, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
It has been moved, but you know sometimes films articles can be made only on a few sources, even before "filming" commenced. There are many this time I can give you the hints of, and yeah the source says "reportedly" but if it's not begun yet then it will be soon. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 17:26, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
@Sportsguy17: Assassin, still a reliable reference should be used before creating the article. If there are only a few sources, they better be reliable. Having a gaming blog referring to film blog which got its information from an actor's Facebook/Twitter page is not reliable. The requirement is a reliable source that filming has begun, not an unreliable source that filming might have begun. Bgwhite (talk) 23:06, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 03:21, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
